Room charging question

I don't normally use the room charging option but am thinking about it this year because I would like DD to have that freedom for her and her brother at the hotel without me having to carry cash all the time. The question I have is do they charge your card when you reach your limit (staying at POP so it is $500) or every couple of days or both? I would prefer to pay at the end of our trip but we are staying 10 nights so I'm not sure if we didn't reach our limit by then that they would want to charge our amount say after a week? Does that make sense?

Also can I put some money on the room charge and when we run out of that then they can charge to the credit card. Has anyone done that?Also I've seen that people have payed their room charge off by check. Is that possible? Do they do an electronic check that is debited that day? In that case I should just use my debit card and not even fuss with the check. I just want to know what my options are. It's so confusing.

Just remembered another question. Will DD (12) have any trouble using the room card for charging? If I remember you have to sign the receipt just like a credit card. I am not going to have DS (9) have charging privledges because he tends to lose things.

I just stayed at POP, when we reached the $50 level our credit card was changed.
Debit cards (w/ major logos on them ie visa, mastercard, etc) can be used for your room (thats what I used for the deposit, but used a CC after i checked in).

Your DD should have no problem, just make sure that they sign the back of their room card. From what I heard at the resort gift shop, children's room keys (9 and under) do not have charging ability (a father grabed their child's room key without looking and tried to buy something one night)

It's been my experience that general room charges, such as meals and souvineers, are charged to the credit card in one lump sum on the last day. However, E-Ride night tickets are charged to your credit card right away. Also, the room part of our bill was charged the first night. Hope this helps.

We've always been asked when checking in if we want our children to have charging priviliges. We used to say no, until we had an experience where it would have been very beneficial to our ds. We ran into a friend of his at MK one morning as we were entering the park, and the friend's mother and sister wanted our ds to hang out with them for a few hours, so we said okay. It was their first trip to the MK and they knew our ds had been there about fifteen times, so they wanted him to show them around. Well, it was 99 degrees that day, with 100 percent humidity, and after an hour my ds was very thirsty, but the mother indicated they were there on a tight budget and wouldn't stop for drinks. We usually buy bottled water once we get into the park and hadn't been there yet long enough to. If our ds had charging priviliges, he could have gotten a bottle of water to carry around. I felt bad that I had neglected to give him some spending money before they went off, and he had no way of contacting me. The complication to this is that he has a kidney abnormality that requires him to drink plenty of fluids. From then on, we've made sure both our kids have charging priviliges.

Also, we've never done this, but I've read where people can pay off their charges by check or cash on their last night, before the amount gets charged on their credit card.

There is no age limit if the parents approve of the child have charging ability. The one year we stayed at Dixie in December and the CM was sorta grouchy because I refused to let the boys have charging privileges so they could buy Christmas gifts for DH and I.

Our room card was given a limit of how much we could charge on it ($1500). Once we hit that limit, usually about the day before we leave, the $1500 is charged to our credit card. Then we have another $1500 open on our room card.

By the way, I have no idea how they figure your limit. My FIL's limit was $500 and he makes and chances are the cc he used had a much larger limit than ours.

Edited to add that I made the deposit with our debit card but checked in with our cc that is from our bank. I just do an online transfer from our savings account when we get home.

We never gave our kids charging priveledges because they are always with us. I see how that could be handy though. I wonder if you can limit the amounts on their cards?

we used a debit card for all expenses last Jan. they gave us up to 500 to charge, when we reached that we went to the front desk, they charged it out and gave us another 500...our card was charged when they charged it off but didn't think to notice when the charge actually went through the bank. I have also sent in checks for deposit but never used one at check out. btw, the 500 didn't include our room fees as we had paid that up front.
