Room Charges

I have a question about charging to your resort room. If I tell the front desk that I want a $1000 limit on my room key, do they hold a $1000 authorization against my credit card. The reason I am asking is that I have $1000 in Disney Gift Cards and I want to pay my room charges with that and I really do not want an authorization held against my credit card. Any info?

the gift card works different... ask at the desk of the hotel at check in, they know how to set it up. If they (the person helping you) don't know how to set it up, someone will.

but the short answer is they debit the gift card at the end of your stay.

Having done this multiple times, Disney does NOT take a pre-authorization on the credit card you use for room charging... I have verified this by checking the remaining credit on the card I gave to the resort throughout my stay.

Traditionally, I've given them a credit card to allow the room charging and then stopped at the front desk the night before check-out and paid the balance (or most of it) with remaining cash.

The limit for room charging is set by the category of resort:

Values : $500

Moderates: $1000

Deluxe: $1500

If you reach the limit, you simply go to the front desk and authorize a payment (or make a payment with your gift cards) and then your limit resets.

I'm not entirely sure you can request a higher limit, but you probably can.

Like Canadian Guy quoted it is certain amount to each level of resorts. I am not sure if you are staying at a value & can ask for a $1000 limit on card. They don't put a hold on your credit card. Once you reach the limit you can go to front desk & pay it. And start all over again. We don't charge that much on keys if we do we pay it off before we leave so no bill waiting for us unless we want the rewards points.:goodvibes

There is no hold on your credit card, regardless of the limit....

However something that has not been mentioned here could be important for you to know.

Lets say you are staying at a MOD and you have a $1000 limit on your card. The reservation system only checks to see if that card is valid or not, not the remaining balance of it.

What is not mentioned is that if you exceed that $1000 limit, your credit card will be charged at midnight and your resort limit will reset back to $1000 again.

Be careful with your charges and be sure you go to the front desk to pay off the balance with them if you are ever in fear of going over the balance.

The front desk can reverse the charges and credit them to your gift cards, but its much easier to not have to worry about that at all.

so they debit the room amount on arrival and any charges on departure???is that right? Thanks!
