Room Block Question

Hi,
I am in the beginning stages of planning a wishes wedding and I have a problem. I am having a wedding of about 75-100 people, and we would have to guarantee 50 room nights. The problem is almost all of our family lives within 30 minutes from disney and will not be spending the night. My immediate family and bridal party will stay a few nights and we could probably use 25 nights.
I have heard rumors that you have to guarantee the rooms or pay for the rooms that you don't use. Does anyone know if this rumor is true or not? A disney wedding is expensive enough, without spending another $7,000 on rooms we won't use. I really want a disney wedding and hope to make this work. I am open to any suggestions.

When I went for my planning session she told us that you do have to pay of unused room nights...but the good news is you only pay the least expensive resort you picked. Example, even if you have 10 room nights left in unused in a deluxe resort like the wilderness lodge (for like $250 a night) you would only have to pay for 10 rooms in the lowest priced resort you picked, like maybe the all star resort for $90 a night. I know it isn't much but it is a lttle better than paying full price! Good luck!

Golly, it seems like they should make an exception for locals! I had heard that the only thing that happens if you don't fill your block is you don't get your free hotel night. But they may be cracking down more these days.

However, what a lot of DIS brides do is put out a call to other DISers who are going to WDW at the same time, and they can add those people's reservation numbers to their room block to count toward the requirement. Just an idea!

Yeah you are right about that too. You don't get your free night either if you don't meet your room block min. Sorry I forgot that part.

I hate to make the situation worse, but with 75-100 people, wouldn't you need to guarantee 75 rooms?

I'd encourage people to book a night at a hotel so they don't have to drive home after drinking. Couldn't hurt.

You can discuss your concerns with your coordinator. Perhaps for a local couple if you do not want your free night they will work out something regarding your contract.

When is your wedding? You could always put a post on here and if anyone is visiting around the same time they could help you meet your minimum! I know id be happy to give out my ressie numbers if i could help!

Thanks for all of your comments! I met with my wedding cordinator on Saturday, and he told me it's fine if we only guarantee 25 rooms. I was so stressed about the room block before I went, and they were very flexable about it. Hope this info can help someone!

Great news! Hope those 25 room nights are easy to come by. Otherwise, like others have posted, people on here will probably be willing to give you res #s to count to your minimum.

When the room block gets closer I will post the information so guys can at least take advantage of the special rates that we will get. We are looking at August 2, 2008. I hope that might be able to help some of you guys out. I have only been a memeber of this site for about two weeks, but everyone is so nice here and very helpful. After all that's what disney is all about! I love it!!!
