Rollator Question

Hello. Some quick questions for you. My mom has a rollator walker. She's considering using that for some of our next trip. How are they handled on the buses? Do you use the regular line or handicapped (if it still exists)? It folds up kind of, but not really well. What do you do with it while on a bus? Thanks.

I believe (though someone will correct me if I am wrong) that you will use the regular line if she can get on the bus normally (up the stairs) and handicap loading procedure if she needs the ramp/lift to get on the bus. While sitting I believe you would have the rollator folded up and hold onto it like one would with a stroller. I will need to use a rollator on my next trip, and that is how I understand it will work.

You are correct but the new low floor buses have no steps to enter or exit but not plush with the ground so it be a little step up. You can as you said have the driver lower the ramp the driver might also be able to tilt the bus to get it plush with the ground so you can get on thought the front door. They don't really kneel like other buses that go straight down they are made to lean right if you look at the entrance it kind sloped down. But the best option is to use the ramp because that will be a smoother entrance with no gap between the bus and curb.

Thanks for the replies. She might actually need the ramp depending on how big the step is. She had surgery on her knee a while back. Sometimes it 'locks' and she can hardly lift it at all. Others it's a lot better. That's why it's hard to plan what to do for this trip. She wants to use the walker, but rent a scooter at the park if she's having a bad day. I just want to rent one from an outside company so she can have it available the whole trip. If her knee's giving her a problem, it's not going to be better when she's outside the parks, either. Parents... gotta love them ...

You also might want to let her know that there are very few ECV's to rent at the parks and it is on a first come first served basis. You can not reserve them. They will also be much bigger and clumsier and cost more than renting off site.

Apple Scooters told me that they have rollator holders available for their scooters. I booked that with the Go Go Elite; we'll see how it goes. This way she has both available! :)
