Roll Away vs. Air Mattress

It seems I made a gigantic error thinking we could sleep three teenage boys in a room with only two beds! They have made it quite clear they are not about to sleep together, so the question is which is more comfortable and/or practical? Bringing an air mattress and pump with us (on the plane) or getting a roll away bed from ASSports? :confused3

I've read other poster's accounts of hauling an air mattress to WDW in their carryon bag. I never thought of that...just worried how much space it would take out of my luggage space, and how much weight it would use up. I'm planning on taking one as a carryon next time, you can bet!

The problem with depending on a cot is that they are on a first come first serve basis. If they are all gone when you go to check in, you would have a problem. I would just bring an air mattress from home, to be safe.

I would bring an air mattress too! There seems to be at least 4 people so maybe one of you can use it as your carry on.:confused3

If you don't have room in your luggage, you can have Wal-mart ship an air mattress to you at the resort. It would be much cheaper than renting a rollaway.

Good thoughts guys! It would be bad if we showed up and couldn't get a cot and didn't have an air mattress! We'll have 5 people, me, DH, DS17, DS16 and DS's BFF. Since it's the boys that are squawking, I'll make one pack the mattress, one pack the pump, and one pack the sheets! :thumbsup2

Maybe I misunderstand, but I do not believe that you can have 5 people in a room at the POP. Maximum capacity is 4. This will be a problem for you if Disney recoginizes this. Plus you will only have 4 room keys and only 4 people will be able to be admitted to EMH. Plus I think you will be miserable with 5 in a POP room, way too small.

Yes, that's true. You cannot have 5 in a room at Pop, unless we are all misunderstanding and you have TWO rooms booked, and the boys just don't want to share a bed...which is understandable. However, I have a hard time understanding how you will fit an air mattress on the floor at Pop anywhere. There is just no room; those rooms are SO small. I can't even imagine where you will be putting it...you could try, but you can't move those beds...they are platform style and can't be moved.

I checked mine with my checked luggage without a problem.

I'm confused now. Do you have 2 rooms, or 1? If you have 2 rooms, don't you have enough beds? You and hubby in 1, and the kids would each have their own.

We have two rooms at AS Sports. We requested a king room with a double adjoining, but that may or may not happen. So it will be me and DH in one room and all the teen boys in the other room.

Since others have mentioned it, I was wondering if there is enough floor space to fit an air mattress at Sports?

I'm sure you could fit a single air mattress, but I don't think a regular double size one would fit.

Another question for you OP--Did you request connecting or adjoining rooms? Adjoining means next to each other, connecting means with the inner door.

Hmmm....good question Maxie. Our TA handled the reservation, so I'm not quite sure. I guess it doesn't really matter to me either way.

Technically if you have rooms that don't connect, you husband has to sleep in one, and you in another. Disney wants an adult in each room. So you will at least have to check in and sign for the rooms that way. They won't do a bed check or anything, but that is how you will have to set up your rooms.

We have fit a queen air mattress in ASSp and ASMo with no problem.

We've taken a full-size aerobed as carry-on and it wasn't a problem. DHB and I are both big guys and if we stay at a budget hotel (eg, Extended Stay America), the aerobed comes in handy.

Actually, my DS17 is bringing his best friend along to celebrate their graduation and he is 18, so we probably have it covered. Hopefully, we will get rooms side by side, so we can make sure the 16, 17 & 18 year olds don't cause too much commotion! ;)

Thanks for the info!

Really good to know! I know it will be tight, but it's better than sleeping in the tub!
