Hey guys, I'm new to the college program and was accepted for QSFB. I was wondering if there were any people here who had been assigned a role and gotten it changed? I've been looking into calling and requesting a change because I am terrified of this role. Any input is welcome, thanks :))

I think you can request a change if you talk to your managers but chances are nothing will change.

You'll need a really compelling reason why you would like to change it... did you check off QSFB or agree to it in your phone interview? Or did you not apply for it at all?

That is where it gets tricky. During my interview he asked if I would do it. I said I wouldn't mind carts or registers, which I wouldn't really mind!, and he said there was no way to assure I would get either, so he said he did not put it down. I didn't know if there was a way to talk to managers when I got there to say I specifically do not feel comfortable in the back of house type of role, or if trying to change my role was a better thing to do.

Only instance I ever faced like this was while working at Downtown Disney one of my locations was to work in The Candy Cauldron but I am allergic to most kinds of nuts. Since they have to deal with nuts they allowed me to not work there. I only worked there once actually. Even though we wore gloves they didn't think it was worth the risk when I could work in 3 other stores with no risk. So unless you have an allergic reaction to something in your work location you probably won't get a switch of any kind. That was a Merch role though not a QSFB role.

I would call and ask why you were offered this role. Be calm and sound like you are just confused and are excited to accept but this was not a role that you indicated you were interested in. Maybe a mistake was made and you can get them to change it.

Can I ask why you're terrified? I only did ODF, but it's not just working carts. We still cook certain foods and all. My first day after training I was asked a temperature question by a health inspector and totally got it wrong. Probably one of the scariest moments of my life, but for the most part everyone's really helpful, and they train you well. If you have any questions, just let me know =D

I just honestly do not cook. Like i cook pasta and stuff like that but every time an oven is involved, I just don't do it. My boyfriend or room mate or whoever is here has to do it for me. I know this sounds so pathetic especially since I'm 21, but still I just really dislike being in a kitchen and I thought that I had stressed that in my interview but i guess not. I wouldn't mind working a cart or something like that, but working in the back of house is what I do not feel comfortable doing. I was going to accept my invitation last night and I watched the video that was provided and all it was was the guy IN the kitchen cooking and making food. There wasn't anything about ODF so that just scared me even more. I want to do this more than anything I just didn't feel that it was the right role for me, so I'm still deciding.

I was able to change roles last year. I was accepted for merchandise, but wanted to switch to costuming, which was the role I had during my first program & I had stayed seasonal in since. I was able to switch, but I think one of the main reasons I did was because of my previous experience in it.

Nevermind. How was your overall experience working in Costuming?

Hey thanks woodskeeper, i also got QSFB not a role but took it, Im scared to death of it but look at like this Its a learning experience and its the back of the house I dont want to do but what the heck I cook at home so why cant I cook for a few million of my extended family right

ODF is definitely part of it cause I did it. Keep in mind, even in ODF, you may be cooking/prepping. It isn't all ice cream and soda and you also may rotate.

I found that the kitchen aspect in the video was over emphasized, but it is accurate for the tasks shown.

Had you not agreed to QSR at all, no issue. But you did. It is very possible that your requests leaning towards ODF were notated.

Bottom line is not convince yourself that you will love it. If you do that, then you are probably going to be miserable while you are there.

If anything, send a nicely composed email that outlines your hesitation. I wouldn't call because you don't know if anything is notated or notated correctly. But if you send an email, then at least it is written and clear as to what you are saying. You may not get changed, but even with that, it will most likely be notated to put you in ODF.

But if you don't like any cooking/prep/cleaning tasks with food, ODF isn't going to be an escape.

I had a friend who was accepted to QSFB, and she got hers changed because of a doctors note saying she wasn't allowed to be around food (she's anorexic, that's the last thing she needs.. lol) so there are ways around it - but I would just stay, the role may seem like you'll absolutely hate it, but it's not just the role that makes up the CP.. you'll probably have awesome co-workers and roommates, and friends who you meet.. the role is a small part of it. In the words of the Beatles "I get by with a little help from my friends" :)

DD best friend got QSFB she was scared but convinced herself she would get a cute little popcorn cart. Well, she got kitchen. This girl has never worked a day in her life and found herself in front of a fryer in Cosmic Rays kitchen. We are so proud of her! She sucked it up, saved the tears for the apartment and phone calls homes and eventually after about 3 weeks the managers realized she had a brain (She has a 4.0 average in college.) She got trained on the register and is often used as a greeter at the restaurant. Disney is probably not going to change your role but if you are a good hard worker with a GOOD attitude they will work with you. She is very happy now with her QSFB role!

My email said I was reserved for QSF&B, but I sent an e-mail to my recruiter and called to find out they made a typo because the codes for QSFB and Attractions are apparently very similar. Maybe you should find out if you're actually in Attractions. :)

thanks for all the tips guys! I called about it before i accepted and they said that there was a note in the computer for ODF only...so hopefully that will help out. And obviously I wasn't able to change. I knew it was a long shot, but it will still be fun :)

I was aware of the QSFB description, but I really didn't even consider the chances of being in a kitchen. Now, i'm scared to death! I wasn't looking forward to the role when it was assigned, but I accepted because I want the CP so bad. Which also might have been why I checked it off as willing to do.

It may sound stupid, but I'm afraid to email and ask. I don't want to sound ungrateful. Do you think I should give it a shot? And does anyone know the email address to contact them about this?

Edit to Add: I found their email address and emailed. I feel like my reason was somewhat compelling for them to consider changing me or at least making sure I don't end up in the kitchen. This whole process makes me nervous! I hope my email didn't make me sound picky and like a bad person!

I personally changed before I went down. I was offer FSFB, I emailed my recruiter before I accepted the offer and asked if I could change. She called me the next day and asked why I wanted to switch, she liked my answer and let me reinterview for attractions which I got. I am so glad I was able to switch I loved my program at Thunder!
