We found out this morning (as we stepped off of the Disney Magic) that Disney has given up ROFR which means we are clear to go through with the purchase of 220 ssr points. However, one of the dvc guys has us petrified that by buying secondary and not from him they will eventually take away our right to stay anywhere else except home resort and that we are second class citizens than those who buy directly from Disney. He said forget being able to stay anywhere else . He also said Disney and its real members are losing out because of people like us. Thoughts from anyone???

They could take that right away from all members, not just those who buy resale. IMHO what he told you was a last ditch scare tactic to get the sale. Unless he's offering you a great deal, Save your money - buy resale.

Disclaimer: I do believe folk should buy where they want to stay - simply for the 11 month booking priority. Example: If you buy at SSR and planning on being able to book VWL for Christmas, or BCV in the summer you're doing yourself a disservice unless you truly don't mind staying at your home resort when the plan fails at 7 months out.

know how to tell if a timeshare salesperson is lying?

their lips are moving.

he is losing his commission if you buy resale. that is the real issue.

Did he really say that in those words?

I can't think of anything I, as a 'real member' (read: I drank the lemonade), am loosing out on by others buying their contracts at resale. There currently is nothing (other than referrals) to be gained by the members, direct or resale when others buy their contracts direct.

... unless...

He was referring to the resale value of my contract dropping on the resale market? If that's the case he doesn't know his economics (supply and demand: you're buying and increasing demand!)

LOL, tell him to pack sand and get a new guide :thumbsup2. As a "real" member of SSR, I welcome you.

At the moment, resale owners purchasing past March 2011 won't have access to the Disney and Concierge collection, but you will have access to all of the DVC resorts and RCI.

Oh, and I would ask him if he is a member, when he bought, and what his home resort is. if he isn't a member and/or not a member of SSR, then he doesn't know what he is talking about anyway.

I always knew that Disney was a business for profit but they had class and seemed to focus on the magic and not so much on the money.

After dealing with DVD, their rule and policy changes, the Aulani legal issues, the lack of equal treatment compared to cash guests, I must say that I have lost respect for them. It's obvious that all they care about is the money.

Buy where you find the best deal.

Congratulations on passing ROFR and I'm sorry that your DVC salesperson tried to scare you like that. If you think about his motivation (he gets paid if you buy direct and he doesn't if you buy resale) it should put his comments in perspective. You are not a second class citizen, you are a membership fee paying member just like anyone else. Remember, the only thing that is guaranteed with any purchase (direct or resale) is the right to stay at your home resort. Anything else is a perk and can be taken away. That being said, I highly doubt they will remove the ability to book other DVC resorts for any member, resale or otherwise.

I would pass his comments onto his supervisors if they really bothered you that much. But then you should forget about it and enjoy your purchase! :)

Just a bad, pushy scare tactic. I have a contract thru Disney and two from TSS resale and the only thing different is my home resort (for booking window). I do agree with disclaimer from twinklebug. Buy where you want to stay. We first bought at SSR and the added at BLT and BWV. We have stayed at all th WDW DVC resorts, and we know the ones we prefer.
