Is that sucker high or what!!! Does anyone know exactly how high up on the mountain the train actually goes into it?How manyt feet up? That is the highest I've ever been up without being "in" something - like a plane!!That was scary :scared1:

The drop is 80 feet, you go most of the way up the mountain that is 199 feet tall, any taller and it needs an airline warning light.

The very highest "peak" of the mountain is just below 200 feet.
That's the tallest any structure can be in Florida without having a blinking or strobing aircraft beacon on top.
So, "just under 200 feet" is the highest measurement of any attraction at WDW.

EE's cars would likely be about 175-180 feet up... the same as being on the 17-18th floor of an office building.

And not NEARLY as high as a "safe flying altitude" of even a small plane.

But when you're "outside" like that (especially during the "climb") it offers a dizzying view of the flat Florida landscape.

I'm glad to hear that it is such a thrill. I come from Ohio, 2 hours drive from Cedar Point amusement park. That park has 16 roller coasters including Millennium Force, 310 foot climb 300 foot drop; Top Thrill Dragster, 420 foot climb 400 foot drop and Mantis a stand up coaster with a climb of 145 feet and a drop of 137 with loops and a flat spin. These are coaster in our book but Disney has always done such a great job with all the visual elements that keep their coaster fun. We can't wait to ride EE next week!

We went to AK on Monday, the 24th, and immediately got fast passes. However the ride broke down with the train (full of passengers!) at the very peak of the mountain. We got some pictures of this, which I'll post when I get a chance.

They were stuck there for about 15 minutes. They then ran 5 empty trains, and everything seemed fine but when they sent another load of passengers they got stuck in the same place! The ride was closed for at least a few hours, and we decided to ride it another day.

We went back to AK on Wednesday, and rode the ride with no problems, but I held my breath as the train climbed the mountain! It is an absolutely incredible ride--Disney at their very best. (That 80' drop is not where you expect it to be, and it sneaks up on you, and seems like 800'!)

I am about a 1.5 hour drive from Cedar Point, so I understand what you're saying. I'm not expecting Disney's rides to measure up to Cedar Point's (I know they won't), but I think we'll be getting a completely different experience from them. Cedar Point is for thrills/chills and Disney is for fun/atmosphere/being with family. If you go in knowing the difference, you'll enjoy both the same amount I believe. Have fun! We plan to!

OMG I can't wait to ride!!!!! :simba: I hope it doesn't break down when we are there!

I would probably have a heart attack if I got stuck at the top of that thing. I DO NOT ride regular coasters where I can see the ground. That is why I like Disney rides. I can't see how high I am. We stayed on the 4th floor at POP last year and going to my room I would have to walk against the wall. My stomach just turns flip flops at anything above the 3rd floor. But I will ride anything at Disney. EE is an awesome ride.

Just reading this post gives me the chills. I can already see my self screaming to no end. I am going to AK on Friday. I will be riding this by myself since I have dd 2 and 5 so my mom will have to stay with them.

If you are on the ride at some point on Friday May 5 and it is a young woman screaming like someone is killing her that is I and I am sorry for it in advance.

For me, the scariest part of any roller coaster is the climb up the hill. I usually have my eyes closed (don't care to see the beautiful views)! I hear that the lift is pretty fast, so you're not going up this huge hill forever....ugh.

Yes, I've seen some great video of this ride recently(posted in this forum, but there are other videos at this link to watch also) and the going-up-the-hill part looks horrid...i do want to ride it though. My only problem is with all the conflicting remarks about the "drop". Alot of people say it isn't bad..that it isn't a straight down drop, etc...but now a previous poster states that it feels like 800'! What is it, guys??!! Its either bad or not bad, straight down or not...I don't get why it's so hard for people who have ridden this ride to give a description of the drop. and with that said, it must be in the dark because you certainly don't see it in the videos! :)

Ooook question!!! How long did you wait with the fast pass? I'm hoping to go in late August, and we'd go first thing and run and get a fast pass. How long would the wait be do you think!?

It sounds amazing!!

I think it all depends on how well you can take things like this. To some it will be scary and to some it will not. The drop is not straight down . It curves down, around and up again. I did not know that it curved back up into the mountain. It kinda makes a loop. We got there at 9 on a morning EMH , went straight to fass pass and got one for 10:40.
