**Rockin the expandable tutu!! -- F&W in 1.5 hours & a DISmeet! [updated 9.29.14]

I've stopped telling them about TIW for just this reason. I had a great server tell me that they really don't need to know about it before hand, as the bill generates the same way and the TIW needs to be added after. I have to confess that I does seem like we've had better service across the board when they haven't known compared to when they know they have the 18% locked in.

Great idea! I'm going to 2 signatures next month and I'm not going to mention the TIW.

For the most part, we get great service but when the service was bad it was soooo terrible.

We will see what happens in November!

CALIFORNIA GRILL: part 3

for my entree, i ordered the YUZU MARINATED SASHIMI. i asked for yellowtail instead of salmon and my request was met.

10396986374_0f9097eb4a_z.jpg

YUZU MARINATED SASHIMI: Yellowfin Tuna, Salmon, Hamachi, Snapper, Wasabi Oil $24.0

the presentation was absolutely beautiful! i was surprised with the addition of caviar on top. the slivered pieces of ginger was a really nice touch.

10397177673_fbe430216b_z.jpg

another view.

up first: red snapper

10396990644_a00d1ab633_z.jpg

the snapper was firm and very fresh. all the fish was marinated in yuzu and i absolutely loved the ginger with the sashimi. the cut of the fish was thick but not too thick. i have to reiterate that the fish was VERY fresh. the ginger brought brightness and the caviar added a bit of saltiness with it's briney flavor. there was no need for soy sauce with the fish as the ginger, yuzu, caviar had all the flavors you needed.

next: ahi tuna

10396939685_36ec756fae_z.jpg

the color of the ahi tuna was stunning. you could tell the fish was very fresh. ahi tuna isn't my favorite fish to eat raw. some people will say the fish has a "delicate" texture or is "soft" but to me, it's semi-mushy. there isn't much texture or mouth feel to ahi tuna. i prefer eating it seared on the outside for texture purposes. but the ginger added a bit of a crunch to the fish and the caviar also brought some much needed texture. but the freshness of the fish made me forget about the texture for the most part.

last but not least: hamachi (yellowtail)

10397021276_6d27d77c50_z.jpg

i love me some yellowtail. it's buttery in flavor and i enjoy the texture. i substituted yellowtail for the salmon so i had double the pleasure for dinner. the hamachi was exquisite. i loved it so much. it was my favorite fish on the platter.

10396974585_d77ccb0141.jpg

i rolled up the ginger inside of the fish with my chopsticks with each bite. that way, i got the perfect bite each time. the hamachi was SOOOO delicious.

i was really enjoying my entree. and for the price, i thought it was an extraordinary deal. the entree receives two thumbs up from me and probably one of the best things i've eaten at disney. i was sad when i had eaten my last piece.

for emme's entree, she chose the pizza.

10397034876_4916fe4d1e_z.jpg

Provolone and Fresh Tomato Cheese Pizza $9.00

10396962065_a06c19839d_z.jpg

enjoying her cheese pizza. ha ha.

after our entrees, we headed to the observation deck of hallowishes.

10397081013_ac54d57dbf_z.jpg

10396953366_56d8fc982c_z.jpg

and someone was getting tired from our long day...

10396960176_8faf1046ea.jpg

the observation deck was awesome! it was a different way to view ALL of hallowishes without having heads in your way and fighting for a spot. the music was even piped in! it got us even more excited for MNSSHP the next night.

we headed inside and ordered dessert.

10396877965_3e7acb8d1f_z.jpg

Warm Homemade Fritters - Banana-stuffed, Cinnamon-dusted Fritters with Toasted Caramel Marshmallows complemented with a Trio of Dipping Sauces $12.00

10397031073_e6bace050a_z.jpg

inside of the fritters

10396890006_983953d142_z.jpg

i'm not a dessert person. i'm not quite sure why i even ordered the dessert. i wanted the cheese platter but last minute changed to the fritters. they were indeed warm and not too sweet. i loved the toasted marshmellow on the side. the chocolate was my least favorite dipping sauce. i ate 2 of these and then took the rest back to the hotel where it remained in my fridge. it wasn't terrible but it wasn't the best dessert i've ever had. i regret not getting the cheese but i was too full to enjoy the cheese.

overall, the interior is much more inviting than before. it is still just as loud and the service needs improvement. i don't know if it's because i was using my TIW or if the CM was just having an off night. either way, emme and i had a great time. i don't think we will be returning in the near future (if we had better service i'd be more apt to return) but i'm glad we got to try it and see hallowishes from the observation deck.

FOOD: 8/10
SERVICE: 6/10

Well, the food looks and sounds delicious. Again, too bad about the poor service. Love the tired pic with Emme. Awwwww

Loving your reviews. I had the same thing for my entree in September and loved it. It was so good. There sushi is so good. We eat at CAlifornia Grill on every trip

Those fritters sound so good but there has been lots of ho-hum reviews on it, like yours. I may have to pass on those ( I planned to order them). Now I gotta figure what else to get.

i wouldn't order those again. then again, dessert just isn't my thing either.

Adorable card! Love the reviews so far, as always!

So disappointing about the service being worse after they learn you have a TIW card. As a former server myself, I wouldn't turn down an 18% tip on any Disney meal, lord knows the food there is much more expensive then anywhere I have ever worked! :rotfl2:

i lucked out and scored a breakfast adr to chef mickey's.

10919228963_fdfaf14508.jpg

breakfast is always awesome at chef mickey's. breakfast is a meal where emme will eat her money's worth at a buffet. i still think the child prices are ridiculous, especially for a 3 year old. but, she does eat more at a breakfast buffet over lunch and dinner combined.

10919074094_fbc5b5acd4.jpg

this is the overpriced picture they try and sell you but courtesy of my iphone. $35 for a picture is nuts...it's a picture with a statue of mickey. it's always a bit uncomfortable when the CM comes over and tries to sell you the picture. i politely declined...again.

we were seated in an area i've never sat in before. it was behind the buffet but there were nice large windows which had a great view...so it wasn't too bad. our server was super efficient and nice. double bonus.

onwards to the food:

here is emme's breakfast staples while at disney.

10919014866_a0c0586ebe.jpg

10919097214_f5f07e86ed.jpg

then some of emme's friends came to visit.

10919249723_5d76de7f2a.jpg

10919107084_a71555713c.jpg

the look on emme's face is what keeps bringing me back to disney. every time she sees a character, the joy she gets from the interaction is awesome. it's priceless.

10919258873_1e0ec41660.jpg

and a self portrait.

10918984815_bac2b60047.jpg

...back to the food...

10919025716_bf97465106.jpg

and a close up of the CHEESY POTATOES!

10919247613_6e6c69b526.jpg

akershus still has the best cheesy potatoes in all of disney but these come in second. they are creamy and very tasty. yes, it's carb-a-licious but totally worth the carbs. but who cares about carbs....i will walk it off at magic kingdom!

we had some more friends stop by to say hello.

10919272903_8bc4eb15ee.jpg

donald is so stinkin cute!

overall, it was another great breakfast at chef mickey's. we had a tasty breakfast, saved 20% with my TIW card, got free valet & emme got to see the characters. i recommend chef mickey's. the food is really good and it's a fun atmosphere.

after chef mickey's, we made our first visit to princess fairytale hall. emme was so excited!

princess aurora really made emme feel special. she doted on her, she twirled her, she gushed over here & emme could not believe it. it was so sweet to watch. emme loved every minute of it.

to be continued.

Very excited to read your dining reviews. We are going in September with a 4 year old and 1 year old with the TIW card and we are staying off site. We are also planning MNSSHP so hoping to see a review of that as well. Your daughter is adorable!!

as always...loving your reviews and photos...Emme is just adorable ..especially the photo with Aurora...

OK..I just the kindle fire HD 7 inch..for myself and I am loving it so far...I had the other kindle with a keyboard on it..but after three and a half years ..it is starting to not like me anymore..so bought this..I agree...great for kids and long trips..

Thanks again for your great photos and reviews...

Yum, I love those WDW croissants!!

The pictures of Emme and Aurora are so precious!

thanks for joining in!! i will be posting some MNSSHP pictures here!

TIW is awesome. the free valet (hold onto your receipt) at resorts is awesome. if i'm at a monorail hotel having a meal using my TIW card, i just keep my car parked there until it's time to leave magic kingdom. it's so much more convenient than having to park, take the tram to the the ticketing center and then riding the monorail to the park. saves you a lot of time and headache!

you are always so kind. thank you!

emme loves her kindle. we just had a new one sent to us (her old one was still covered under warranty) as we were having volume issues. amazon sent us one so quickly and the exchange was totally painless. love their customer service. it's a great device!

Yum, I love those WDW croissants!!

agreed! they are delicious!

thank you for the nice comment! aurora was AWESOME!

YUMMO! Those cheesy potatoes make my mouth water! Joining in!:thumbsup2

Sweet cream cheese stuffed pretzel

i love this snack. the pretzel was nice and soft and the sweet cream cheese was a perfect match with the pretzel. yummy!! note the halloween disney cup. i got a free ice water with my pretzel.

emme was getting tired so she took a little nap in the jogging stroller. i then thought it would be a great idea to eat some more. off i went to forage for food.

i have no idea why i stopped here:

11827674023_94c69253a6.jpg

i think the air conditioning had some magical powers and drew me in. it was also a plus that i was able to take the stroller in and not have to park it.

10919179824_8880893cf1.jpg

10919344423_33a22b0a88.jpg

i wanted to snack since we had an early BOG adr before MNSSHP. so i went for a "light" snack & ended up with this:

10919169154_d60145225f.jpg

Chili Cheese fries sans cheese.

after a visit to the toppings bar, my light snack ended up looking like this monstrosity:

11827485845_3bb25aec7f.jpg

i have no idea what the allure is of the nuclear orange nacho cheese sauce while i'm at disney but i love it! and i'm not going to lie, the chili cheese fries were pretty tasty. the chili had good flavor and with the cheese & banana pepper, it was a pretty yummy snack.

i was sitting at an outside table as the inside was so crazy. another family sat down on the other side. the daughter was staring at me constantly as i was eating....i actually thought about asking her if she wanted to share because she was staring at me so hard. thank goodness the parade was starting as the inside cleared out and i found a nice quiet table in airconditioning. i used the time while emme was sleeping to recharge my phone and relax

i forgot to bring my paper receipt for MNSSHP so i had to go to guest relations for a print out. this was a total pain. i made my trek back to the front of the park while emme still slept.

10919166284_ba39d472a9.jpg

after standing in line for about 30 minutes, we finally got the tickets for the party. emme & i had to change into our costumes before heading to BOG for dinner. i didn't wear a costume last year (i did rock a tutu) but this year i wanted to dress up!

up next, BOG DINNER & MNSSHP!

11688355304_0918c77b22.jpg

me & my dinner date! :cheer2:

I have never tried chef mickey's but am interested in trying breakfast. I am glad that emme will eat breakfast... it is my fav meal of the day:cool1:

Those chili fries look amazing

I've had 1 great dinner experience and 1 absolutely horrible experience with dinner.

However, breakfast has always been awesome! It's a bit pricey but worth it.

And yes. The chili cheese fries were amazing...it's that nacho cheese sauce! I'm going to get them again in 2 weeks. Ha ha! :)

i am sad to post that i have misplaced my SD card which contained MNSSHP & F&W pictures taken with my dslr. *le sigh* i've shot 3 weddings since then and with the hustle & bustle, the sd card has disappeared. but at least i have pictures captured with my iphone. i'm really hoping it magically appears.

after the debacle of trying to get my ticket for MNSSHP, emme & i changed in the bathroom by guest services. it wasn't the most graceful of wardrobe changes but we were finally ready!

11888246225_e4bd1ae93a.jpg

princess emme

my friend sophie is an incredible seamstress. she has created 4 original dresses for emme including the rapunzel inspired dress for MNSSHP. she's also creating a one of a kind snow queen elsa dress for emme as we are headed back down to disney next weekend to celebrate emme's 4th birthday!

here is one of my tips for MNSSHP or MVMCP: i like to have an early dinner inside the park before the party. when i mean early, i mean the first adr available. i've lucked out that i was able to score an eary adr to BOG. i've eaten at BOG before MNSSHP last year, MVMCP last year and MNSSHP this year. the meal is no where near spectacular but it's nice to be able to start the night in fantasyland. i feel like i have a head start for the character pictures including the coveted picture with the seven dwarves. last year they were in frontierland, this year, they were located in new fantasyland. another perk to BOG before a party...one word: BEER!!!

the early ADR makes me feel like i am one step ahead and i'm not rushed to get into the park. i've had a decent meal, a couple of beers and then we were unleashed into the party. it's a total win IMO especially the beer part. but i digress....

since we were in party mode, emme had an ice cream before dinner. we made a pit stop to storybook treats.

Vanilla soft serve ice cream

we still had a few minutes before BOG opened, so we went to say hello to some friends:

11889410116_b1e33f5510.jpg

11888922793_daeb427086.jpg

it was time to check in for our adr at BOG.

11688003183_f55938022d.jpg

we were seated in the ballroom.

11687765645_32192090fb.jpg

up first, the very important champagne, wine & beer list.

11688518356_87cbb2cbaf.jpg

11688119524_f142b051eb.jpg

i will like to preface that i have very low expectations at BOG. i've had dinner here numerous times as well as lunch. i think both meals are over priced and sub par and service during dinner leaves a lot to be desired. if BOG did not serve beer & wine, i probably would never go back. the allure for me is the beer & wine while IN magic kingdom as well as getting a picture with the beast. so with this meal, i had very very low expectations. i just wanted to be somewhat full with a somewhat decent meal to begin our MNSSHP.

11688008973_302328fe7a.jpg

one of my gripes with BOG are the insanely small tables. there's so much stuff ON the table & the tables are so close to one another that it's uncomfortable at times, especially when you add in the kids coloring book, drinks, camera, plates of food etc. it's cramped BUT the ball room is beautiful.

11688514396_e5c134369b.jpg

olaf on the coloring book!

to my surprise (see what having low expectations can do) my server was really really nice, efficient & actually cared if we had a good experience or not. she was AWESOME (so much so that i emailed Disney about my her). our drinks were never empty, she brought emme extra bread (emme only eats the insides), kept the table as clutter free as she could and we saw her numerous times during the meal. no disappearing act from her. she always had a smile on her face & didn't look miserable during our entire meal.

up next, bread service.

11688026313_a495f9a0cb.jpg

11688147284_f010446ab5.jpg

the bread wasn't anything super spectacular but it was warm and the butter melted nicely on it. emme loves the insides of these rolls. she ate about 8 of them and our server had no issues in bringing emme seconds on the rolls.

finally, my yummy beer.

11688012283_82b788c702.jpg

11688019783_6ba7550bb4.jpg

...so the server had very poor beer pouring skills but that's ok. i poured the second one and it was perfect.

onwards to the entrees:

11688566796_c556dd49de.jpg

Thyme-scented Pork Rack Chop - with au gratin macaroni, seasonal vegetables and red wine au jus $21.99

11688566586_17cc0b8063.jpg

this is my 3rd time ordering this entree. on this particular visit, the pork was exceptionally moist. the entire entree was nice & warm. on my last visit, the macaroni was cold. ick. this time, the macaroni was warm & gooey. i liked the entree minus the overly salty au jus. it was repulsive. it tasted like i had swallowed a cup of salt. oh my. i did ask for some tobasco sauce to put on my pork. they didn't have sriracha so i settled for tobasco.

emme ordered:

11688155344_aca5277ed3.jpg

Whole-Grain Macaroni - topped with mozzarella & mashed potatoes

this entree tasted as bad as this picture is....and that's pretty terrible. i have no idea why disney can't make kids pasta....it annoys me that they can't melt the mozzarella cheese in the pasta. the pasta is probably cold and they just throw in some cheese but come on...this was gross. emme loves pasta but after one bite, she had enough.

and what about the mashed potatoes? these were equally gross. they were bland & definitely not made fresh & probably from a box or a can. it had a terrible flavor & smelled worse. again, emme loves her some mashed potatoes but after 2-3 bites, she declared that these were "really gross mama".

emme had some more bread & some bites of my macaroni & cheese. the server did ask if she could bring emme something else but that's about the only thing she will eat on the kids menu. she doesn't eat much meat (i think she might be a vegetarian as she eats just like my mom who eats minimal meat). when i declined, she just brought emme some more bread.

i don't have much of a sweet tooth so i passed on dessert. she brought us out some of the grey stuff.

11688172904_072ef88b40.jpg

here are some shots of the halloween cup cakes. i was taking a picture through the glass but a manager was walking past me and said "that's no way to take a picture of the cupcakes" & opened the lid so i could snap a picture.

11687800085_0123c2f2a5.jpg

11688174064_fb611f1544.jpg

and the ballroom:

11688535066_927934ec62.jpg

last but not least, our charming host for the evening:

11688345144_baaae07f2c.jpg

11688349614_bd61b90ce7.jpg

11688584656_367fddbd44.jpg

overall, service wise, we had our best service ever at BOG. she made up for the awful dinner for emme & the salty au jus. my pork was tasty and i enjoyed my entree & beer. i always say i never return but always somehow end up with a last minute adr & end up torturing myself in the process. i have a love/hate relationship with BOG but for the purpose of MNSSHP, it was a really great choice in terms of time, getting a head start & having a few beers before the party.

up next, MNSSHP pics!!
