Rocket launch!

So there is a possible rocket launch during our August visit.

If the launch goes ahead and depending on what time of day, where can we view it from and what else can we incorporate with our visit if we chose not to visit the actual Kennedy Space Centre?

Hubby talks about a day at the beach but I think it would be way too hot for us to spend any length of time at the beach?!?

Are there any good restaurants in the area?

What would you do with your day on rocket launch day?

Thanks in advance.

Ali.

Rocket launches have a nasty habit of being delayed a lot...they are no where near as reliable as the shuttle launches used to be.

However, we have always gone to KSC on the day of launch as it makes a good day out anyway. That way you are not waiting on a beach for something that may have been delayed.

The last one we went too was meant to be a 9.30 launch but was delayed 2.5 hours. However as we were there early they put on special bus tours that took us really close to the old shuttle pad which was cool. However we got back to main complex and then nearly missed the launch as they brought it forward by 30 minutes!

Compared to a shuttle launch its quite quiet however it's still an impressive sight :goodvibes

I agree with you, I would prefer to visit KSC rather than hang around on the beach......

Was the KSC particularly busy on the day though???

Thanks.

Not especially probably busier than an average day but didn't stop us doing or seeing anything.

What date in August is the launch supposed to be? We are there Aug 5-16 and would love to see it if possible. We went years ago and saw the space shuttle launch but as we didn't know about it we just happened to be driving around and pulled over on the road and watched it go up. Very exciting even from a good distance away.

Thanks Wayne - can you recommend somewhere to eat if we decide to watch from Titusville? Did you do anything else on your visit there? Things to see and do recommendations? or is it simply a quick visit to watch the launch?

Thanks in advance.

We just went there and back, never ate there but there are places to eat http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurants-g60751-Titusville_Brevard_County_Florida.html
For the shuttles they used to have stalls set up selling memorabilia, food, drinks etc. toilet blocks, really friendly people but not been since the Shuttle program finished.

I am not sure that Titusville will have anything set up for a rocket launch as they aren't as popular to see as the shuttle was probably because they are more frequent and unmanned.

There are rocket launches most months from Cape Canaveral.

I am not sure Tracy but it is still a place people congregate to watch the rocket launches. I doubt there will half the crowd but that's not a bad thing, it used to be crazy busy. Hopefully a rocket will go while we are there so I can report back.
