I have been meaning to post this since our last trip, when we made a surprising discovery. Thought I would post it here in case... we were in guest services at MGM after I found this out and they didn't know this either, so I hope it's helpful.

Did you know there's a row in the Rock & Roller Coaster with a grab bar?!?! Sure, it's still a nightmare to get in and out, but this made it a ton better. I was chatting with a CM waiting to be seated and noting that I would need extra time, and he asked if I wanted the row with the grab bar. What?! It's a small metal grab bar on the front of the car edge. It is by the end where you get in/out. Still very deep to step in and out, but being able to hang on and haul yourself using the grab bar really helped me and was better than having my husband try to help me. Not sure if this is new, I have certainly been looked like I could have used it before and no one said anything.

Happy holidays to all!

I don't think anyone has posted that information before:thumbsup2

Someone once in the last 5 months or so did post that info but it has been a while. It would be hard to find probably. It is a great tip that should be in the ride info.

Great find and King Vidor said his office was not neat because when he found something in the pile on his desk it was new again and fresh. This is one of the best tips out there as many people would not think to ask for that seat.

Merry Christmas

I need to work on my brain wiring as I cannot remember where my keys are but can remember the grab bar. That is the only other time anyone has mentioned it that I can remember.

Churchy NEEDS sleep NOW and I remember that thread as it was riveting and very well written. I think Sue is not the only one needing some rest. Waves to Sue.
The original thread was by a cupcake.

Yes, the grab bar is in row 3 if my memory is correct. Even better, there's a small door that open on the side of that row, allowing you to just walk in, instead of having to step over the side of the car. Amazing idea by Disney and as far as I know, only the other Rock n Roller Coaster in Paris has it! Space Mountain at Disneyland Paris (same kind of ride with similar cars) was refurbished in 2005, but the cars were just repainted, sadly. So, they haven't added the little door to one of the car yet.

California Screamin at Disney California Adventure features one row on most of the trains where its only one seat, to give space for someone to do an easy transfer.

Space Mountain at Disneyland (california) is I believe the most accessible coaster in the world. The reason is simple: They basically added a separate loading station for disabled guests, giving you all the time and space to do transfers. Once everyone is strapped in, they'll send an empty car, stop it on the track next to you and your car will just slide into the ride. Once the ride is over, you go through the regular station and will just slide back over to the alternate loading area. Here is a picture showing the regular track and the alternate loading area: http://www.rcdb.com/ig2491.htm?picture=6

I think you are right, and it is row 3. However, I didn't see any door ... but I will ask next time. Maybe it is on one car and the rest have grab bars and no door?

Door or no door, I was totally amazed to see the grab bar!!! Go Disney!

Sue, if you keep a list, if it's not there already, I would add a note for Big Thunder-- we have had varying results in terms of the CMs paying attention to where wc/ECV parties get dropped off. The new loading area is nice as there is a sturdy rail to lean on while waiting to board, and it's easier to not have to fight the crowds. However, the times we did not specifically ask to make sure we ended up back on the side with the ECV, we ended up on the wrong side, and it's a bit of a walk plus not level to get back.

And Absimilliard, yes, I do appreciate the separate boarding areas (e.g., Kali River Rapids, Toy Story Mania, etc.). It really takes the pressure off. Thanks for the door tip, I will definitely look for it.

A happy and healthy new year to everyone here!

I am planning to eventually complete a FAQs thread for each park like the partially completed on for Epcot.
When I do , this kind of info will go in it.
