They had the grand opening for a new aquatic park (Rob Fleming Aquatic Park) in our town (The Woodlands) yesterday. Our town is a 30 year old master planned community that is still expanding. There are about a dozen pools/aquatic parks in a variety of configurations. The newest is also the most elaborate with a tall tube slide, a lazy river, a kid's shallow water play center, and a lap pool.
The grand opening yesterday was a fun affair. They had about 10 moonwalk like things, free food, firemen, entertainers, and assorted swag. The kid's loved the pool and the moonwalks.
I took our Canon G9 in it's waterproof housing. The housing is great for in water activities. It's not without problems, however. The biggest problem is water droplets on the lens. When you're in the water, there is no good way to wipe them off. I may try bringing a bit of chamois attached to the strap to see if that helps. The other problem is that the housing traps an incredible amount of heat. I'm not sure how much was from the camera and how much was from the sun, but when I opened the housing the camera was almost too hot to touch.
Here are a few shots from the day:
The Lazy River
The bridge / tunnel connecting the pool to the lazy river
The shallow water play area with a big water dumping bucket
They even brought out air conditioned port-a-potties for the event.
