A while back, I remember reading that the GF served/sold roasted chestnuts in their lobby during the holidays. Does anyone know if they're doing it again this year?

Is that the only place to find roasted chestnuts? :confused3

DH is addicted to them!

Last december, we got roasted chestnuts outside the GF. It was such a great surprise and so delicious.

Where :confused3

The monorail entrance on the second floor or the main entrance???

Were they just giving them out???

I just found this thread, it made me laugh.

I have 3 chestnut trees in my yard. They must have dropped 3000 nuts this year all over my yard and driveway...what a mess! :sad2: We always get a lot of squirrels around because of the trees. They open the shell and take one bite out of each nut, then leave it and go to the next. :confused3

Around here, chestnuts are for the squirrels! I did not know humans actually enjoy them too!

In 04 and 05 we went all over every resort and park looking for these nuts. No one at the GF knew what the heck we were talking about. In 06 we went to the GF and checked out the old car out front and sure enough there was a CM roasting chestnuts and giving them out for free. We took some and went upstairs to the bar, had a hot toddy and ate them...it was amazing sitting in the GF, listening to the live band place Xmas music and eating hot chestnuts.

I hope they continue to do this!

Oh, yes. At least this person does. The trees don't grow, where I live, so I don't get 'em too often, but once, around Christmas time, near where I work, there was a person roasting chestnuts, and I bought some. I quite enjoyed them; therefore, if I'm ever around GF around Christmas time, I'll have to see whether they're still giving away roasted chestnuts.

I'm not positive but this may be a perk they do only right around the Christmas week......rather than from Thanksgiving. I have seen the chestnuts as described by the old car. In fact, in the past you could find all kinds of "surprises' at the resorts around Christmas, especially on Christmas Eve. I believe I've also seen the chestnuts at the Beach Club but this was probably 10 years ago.

OMG! My DH LOVES chestnuts!! I usually buy him one jar from Williams-Sonoma each T-giving, as they cost a fortune! I've heard the day after T-giving they're 75% off, but I've never made it to the store in time!

We even have a chestnut roasting pan with the holes in it! He first saw in on a Martha Stewart Christmas special and had to have it!! :rotfl2:

Nicki, your the best! :flower3: I should have known to PM you and you would know the answer! You know everything food related in WDW!!! I bow to the food queen! :worship:

That's exactly what I was thinking, yet hoping it wasn't true!

Aw shucks, you are making me blush!

My entire family are chestnut lovers and I make my stuffing with chestnuts in them. Harry & David usually has them for $10 a jar and this year they do not. I called William Sonoma and yes they have them for $17.50 a jar!! What the heck? I am totally going the day after Thanksgiving and see if I can score some cheap, thanks for the tip!

So I called my mom in Boston, she was able to get them for me from this little Italian deli for $5 a jar. Thanks to mom for saving my stuffing!

I know chestnut prices are CRAZY!!! $5.99 per lb at the supermarket over here.

I make a sausage stuffing w/mozzerella for T-giving. It's rich, but everyone loves it.

The good thing about the chestnuts in the jars is that they're ready to eat. No roasting, no shells, nothing.

Lots of luck with the Williams-Sonoma sale. The salespeople have told me people buy them by the cases the day after T-giving. So you might have to be there at store opening. I would also double check the exact date they put them on sale. One year they started discounting them the week of T-giving. You might have better luck buying them at 30% off then waiting for them to be 75% off.

Honestly, I had no idea what I hot item these were!

I don't know if they'll repeat it again this year, but in previous years I've seen roasted chestnuts sold at a special holiday cheer kiosk at DHS next to the Studio Catering Company/Flatbread Grill.

Thanks! :flower3:

Now that you mentioned DHS, I remember seeing a cart selling hot chocolate on the street where the Osborne Lights are. I wonder if they'd sell the chestnuts? Make sense right? Goes with the NYC Holiday Street Scene

Okay, I've never had chestnuts, but I am going to the World the week before Christmas and I'm going to keep an eye out for them. What do they taste like?? Are they salty or more like almonds and walnuts?

If we arrive at the Grand Floridian via the monorail where would we find the entrance with the "old car" for the chestnuts and where is the gingerbread house located?

Both are on the ground floor, down the stairs or elevator one flight.

Thanks! :flower3:

Thats what I thought too! We went Dec 04, 05 and 06 and have read numerous items that said HS had roasted chestnuts.....we went crazy looking for them and they only had the roasted almonds and pecans...boy was DH bummed out.

Hopefully they brought them back because it does fit the theme
