Road Trip Question

Thank you everyone for your awesome suggestions! @StormyCA we are going to use your itinerary I think! DH seemed to like it!

Hope it works out for you. DH and I do quite a bit of road tripping. My trips to DL plus an annual 4000 mile (more or less) trip in our RV every summer along with shorter trips here and there. We think the long push on the first day works well. And there's nothing like having just an hour or three left on the day of your arrival.

Have you given a thought to your return trip home? After a Disney trip you can be tuckered out. You may want to think about doing a shorter first day vs the 'big push' for your return home as your driver (you or DH) may be a bit tired (or sore) and not feel up to a 10-12 hour day behind the wheel.

I should of clarified. We aren't planning on driving down the coast. We are taking the I-5? The main highway that runs down through Oregon and California. We basically can do 12 hours the first day but we don't want to be arriving to DLR too late the second day. Rather have maybe an hour or two of driving on the third day so we can get there, drop off our stuff and head to the parks!

Oh I see. You mentioned Oregon coast. Does the ferry stop in Oregon then?

If so, Edgefield will make no sense because it's east of Portland. Love mcmenamins; got married at one of their properties (Cornelius Pass Roadhouse) and spent our wedding night at Grand Lodge. But they aren't great for quick road trips.

I can't help but wonder with the all the stops going in both directions (hotels and food), plus gas and then parking at the hotel or park if it isn't actually cheaper to fly.

That's where we always end up. And the *getting home* issue. Road trips will only make sense for a time we have time and money to make it NOT quick and we won't be doing a plain back and forth drive. We did Tacoma to Anaheim and back once, didn't budget time or money to sightsee apart from some obligations, and it wasn't fun. (Of course, DS was 3, but then he hasn't changed much in terms of car drives in the last 9 years lol)

....actually the fastest part of their whole trip in portland will be driving 84 east to Edgefield. Portland traffic has become unmanageable for any weekday traffic any time of the day. Oregon I-5 traffic is also bad. The only down time is Between Cottage Grove and Roseburg. No relief till south of Ashland. And with the weather system changes in oregon, chances are slim that they will have no snow, so that is a change for the good travel time, but not so good for drought , but Semi truck traffic has become a deterrent to any fast traveling in Oregon
