Rivers of Light with no fastpass and no dining package...is it even possible?

We are interested in seeing the show but are you actually forced to have a fastpass or dining package in order to see it?

Arrive 45-60 min. ("earlier" beats "later") before show time and get in the "standby" line
(which is over on the Dino-Rama side of the RoL theater.)

That doesn't sound too bad. I know nothing is ever guaranteed but is there a good chance of getting in doing it that way? Or do you have to get lucky?

And what if we can't get in, is this show like Fantasmic where you can't see anything from the outside? Or are there places to stand where you can kind of see it? I've only been to AK once so I'm not too familiar with the layout and sight lines of this area.

If you get to standby an hour before, I have little doubt that you'll get in.

You can see an obstructed view from the bridge between Nemo and Everest.

(I think you are assuming that this show is far more popular (and spectacular) than it has actually proven to be.)

I too keep going back and forth about getting a Fast Pass. The Fast Pass viewing area is larger and more toward the center but then I'm worried that since I won't use my last FP until the evening we will then be forced to do stand-by lines all day long. I really dislike that nighttime shows are part of your FP tiers. I prefer how Disneyland does it - World of Colors is not all all tied to ride FP.

Ha I know the show hasn't been as well received as it could have been. I just still want to definitely get to see it on our only day in AK. We want to make sure it isn't so popular just from being something new that we can't see it without fastpasses.

My point is just that...
It has not proven to be an "unattainable goal."

The night we are going ROL is scheduled for 7:45 Pm and 9:00 pm. Do we have a better shot of getting in with less wait time for 9pm show without fastpass or dinning plan?

Yup.

We walked up a couple weeks ago when it was starting and just found some decent spots by the fence. I'm 6' so just stood behind my daughters. It was kind of like Electric Light Parade on the water mixed with World of color at DCA, both of which we've seen a few times each so we were fine with our view. If you really want to see it from a better view may as well get FPs for it though.

I watched the second showing on 10/11. The theater had plenty of seating left and that was a busy week. I don’t know how full the first showing was.

I was very disappointed in the show though. It was a one-and-done for me. I Understand wanting to see it once though! I did too. :)
