Rivers of Light by the end of October?!?

Does this mean more construction work, or is this a request to the county/state to begin a nighttime performance?
They don't need to request to begin performance. That link means a notice of commencement for work to begin which means some sort of construction or maintenance or electrical etc. work will be done.

I'm sitting on my balcony at AKL right now and I can hear them testing.
Sigh
That could just be the soundtrack, they did say the would play ahead of the show to get the animals acclimated. But sounds encouraging, especially for all us looking at Oct Nov dates... 44 days for us.

WE are going over Thanksgiving - so we are getting REALLY HOPEFUL!!

Hope that it is soon for all going on trips this fall!

We are at WDW Dec. 8th-20th.

Any speculation on what the night time hours at AK will be for that time frame? It gets dark at 5-5:30pm in December. Would they keep it open until 8pm or only 7pm until the heavier Christmas crowds roll in?

Once Rivers of Light debuts, hours *should* go back to 11pm to accommodate a couple showings per night.

11pm is a bold guess... Epcot hardly closes past 9pm and it has the food/drink/merchandise to keep people around, AK does not. I'd be surprised to see AK open past 9pm most nights this fall/winter except for the busy 2 week Holiday period.

Well, they are showing off a brand new show. They might close closer to 10pm because of the extra night they'll have due to earlier sunsets, but they'll want to show it at least twice per night

Yeah I don't know if they will go back to 11 during the fall and winter. Epcot and MK don't even usually stay open that late. I think we will see a 9-10PM closing and then 11 back in the spring and summer.

I was figuring 8pm for early December and maybe later for the Christmas crowds. 9-10pm would be awesome.

That won't happen. I would expect even with ROL you will get the park open until 8 PM to 9 PM at the latest. They will have 2-3 hours to run two shows a night. (11 PM possibly during the xmas holiday)

I'd expect two showings and the park to close at 9pm.. That would make the most sense.. but then again, they have to manage all the busses between the parks and how they're going to move thousands around so some park is going to have to give in order for AK to be open later. I'd imagine we see Studios close earlier than it has.. especially since you can run through that park in about 90 mins.

to be fair, AK has quite the drink and snack selections now - lots of good beers and mixed drinks and dole whip with rum, etc. ... I found that really added to the atmosphere of AK at night - grab a drink watch a dj or another musical act, etc.

Actually wouldn't be a bad idea - set up something similar to food and wine but with a slightly more African/Asian flare than F&W, which distinctly leans European. Of course the problem in DAK is the narrow pathways.

I hope AK doesn't become Epcot 2.0.. I'm okay with the drinks and food, in fact I welcome it, but Disney cannot be all about that as they need things to differentiate each park.
