Rivers of Light by the end of October?!?

I have to say, and I hardly ever have anything negative to say about Disney, but I have a bit of gripe since the top 2 reasons why I booked our December trip in the first place, was ROL and the SW fireworks/dessert party and at this time neither of them are available to book. So to say I'm a bit lukewarm on Disney right now would certainly be an understatement. I'll get over it and make do as others will but just wanted to get that off my chest.

I'm sure you know this, but the Jingle Bam dessert party (which is replacing the SW Galactic Spectacular for the holiday season) is bookable through the end of December. If you wanted a dessert party (any dessert party), that's it. Apologies if you were in the "Star Wars or bust" crowd.

No, I'm not in the SW or bust crowd and I did book the Jingle Bam Dessert party. I did want to at least do one of the dessert parties. I had initially booked the Holiday Wishes party but then decided on just doing one dessert party and choose to the SW one and then Disney made the change. Like I said previously that I would get over it but I initially booked the trip because of ROL and SWGS. I was torn between WDW and a cruise this year and those two events swayed my decision to go to WDW and now SWGS is in hiatus and who knows about ROL?

you should never book a trip because of one or two events, especially one that hasn't even opened yet and is on hold indefinitely. At this point I don't think anyone who is booking trips hoping RoL is open can really blame Disney for it... it's a gamble that you take.

I can't afford to go so often anymore... so I picked december because of all of the holiday activities. Osborne lights is gone (I knew they would be but still sad about it), MSEP is gone (did not know it would be when I booked, still VERY sad about it)... but in general we are going for the christmas stuff and willing to go with the flow. Our last trip was over 2 years ago and our next one will probably be at least 4.... I'm assuming by then there will be tons of new stuff to see at the parks in 4 years, plus it will have been so long since our last trip everything old will be new again. If you have gone so much that you're only looking forward to one or two things that are new, maybe time to take a break and let all of the new stuff work its way out. There should be tons in a few years. Still I do get the disappointment (MSEP for me especially)...

But I honestly don't get what the big deal about RoL is. Anyone who is booking trips based on a guess at an opening date is doing so completely out of their own discretion and not out of anything Disney has promised at this point. I don't get a lot of the anger about it (not you specifically, just in general). I'm sure that every day it doesn't open is costing them money of sinking big $$ into this show and not being able to use it to keep people at the park and spending money later at night. I'm sure they want to open it as soon as they can. I just don't get why people are so upset about the whole thing. Sure, the people who booked based on the hype in the spring I get... Disney "promised" and didn't deliver... I don't have much hope for a first week of december show at this point and even if they have it, my plans are pretty solid. I am sure it will be there 4 years from now if it's worth seeing and if it's not, it's not worth seeing. Illuminations is my favorite nighttime show and we'll see that an extra night or two... it'll be 20 years old by the time we return and it may not be there so might as well get my fill of it now.

I don't agree about ROL. They did promise ROL. It was announced and supposedly was ready to go. Even had a press viewing. I'm not drinking the Disney Kool-aid as far as that goes. If it's fine with you, then OK, but don't tell me how I should feel.

Yeah, back in April. When it became apparent they were going to miss that deadline and by a lot, the rest became speculation. It has not been promised to anyone at any date past that original one. I understand those who booked for that being ticked because Disney gave it a hard date. Anyone who books now thinking "for sure it will be open by my trip" has no one to blame but themselves.

it's not "drinking disney kool-aid"... they haven't made any promises for you to hold them to.

I didn't book the trip at the last minute. I booked back before April. There has been no official updates but a "Coming Soon" posted on the website for quite a while now.

if that is the most important thing that you want to see then you should reschedule your trip rather than hoping it will be ready when Disney has not promised it will be by any date.

I've been planning my trip for 2 years, booked at 11 months out at DVC but it doesn't hinge on ONE thing.

That's fine FOR YOU. I don't book that way. I already changed my plans because I was thinking of a summer Alaska cruise but decided on WDW. How was anyone to know this would linger on for so long? So I cancel my trip and then Disney decides it's ready to go. What then? Sorry but Disney dropped the ball on this.

Disney hasn't promised you anything. That is a choice that YOU made, to take a gamble and book a trip on a show that has a lot of new technology that they are having a lot of problem with. Doing something on the cutting edge sometimes comes with delays. Crap happens. You don't think they're paying for it in spades with money and time lost, low attendance at AK and the rest of it? Where they made their HUGE mistake was promising it back in April, hyping it up, and then not delivering. I understand why those people were ticked off and felt lied to. Disney has not lied to you. They have not told you it would be open by your trip. You made your decision based upon your hope and speculation that it would. And you decided to hinge your trip to a very expensive huge entertainment complex on one event. Disney didn't make you do that either, nor are they not providing adequate entertainment for your money. I'm sorry you are frustrated and hoped it would be open by now but no one promised you anything... the decisions you made were your own. No one was supposed to know how long it would linger on, which is why Disney still has not given a date publicly about when it would open. Anything you read here is rumor... their best guess and maybe their hopes and goals, but not set in stone.

What is this all about anyway? I did say in my initial post, that I would adjust and I planned something else. I said I would get over it, like everyone else. So I've basically moved on. Never said they lied they just didn't deliver. What if I cancel then it's ready? I wouldn't be able to get my initial accommodation back. I don't have anything. I think you've made your point and I've made my mine.
