Just read on another public forum site that a TA went to a meeting at Disney and the "wheels are turning in a positive direction for River Country". She could not give any details, but said things were brewing. Definitely peaked my interest. Has anyone else heard anything.

Haven't heard anything, but when I go in a little less than 2 weeks, I will try and ask around.

When I was there last month we had a boat captain who said he used to be a lifeguard at River Country in the 80's, we asked him if he knew of any plans for the area. He said that Wilderness Lodge would continue to expand towards River Country and that FW was also going to expand towards River Country and that the River Country area would be converted to a water recreation area to be shared by both resorts.

I know a lot of rumors fly around so I'll believe I when I see it.

Who thinks Fort management is holding meetings with random travel agents telling them confidential information?
There is talk of expansion in the future because of the Wilderness Lodge DVC. It is no secret. There have been no permits pulled according to my sources.

My bet is a DVC next to the Fort on the old RC property or a pet-friendly resort (or a combo of the two). Bama Ed

1) There were actual talks a while ago about a DVC at the River Country landsite.
2) I cannot envision a pet-friendly resort.
3) Except FW campsites, Disney does do pet-friendly.
. . . too much liability for allergies of/by the next guest
. . . too much possibility of pet damage to the room, and costs to replace room items
. . . too much money to remove/cover pet smells and remnants

I presume you meant:

:)

I would love to see a FW expansion, DVC or not. Certainly, if they expand another pool would be required. After seeing pictures of what is left of River Country it seems that it wouldn't make financial sense to try to refurbish it.

Negative on the DVC. If they do anything like what those proposed plans were a few years back, all that nice shade area behind Pioneer Hall, the open grass between the Hall and bus stop, petting farm, stables, current location of Mickey's BBQ are all going to be one huge parking lot. Sorry folks, that's not my kind of place to camp when you level it like that.

On the Rumors and News forum, there is a discussion of a new pavilion behind the Settlement Trading Post - maybe all this will eventually tie together.

I completely agree. Those plans were poorly designed and paved over much of what made open spaces and leisure time at the Fort so special.

They also included that Pavilion you mentioned above as well, so that discussion may be based on old news.

If they do an expansion it would be nice if they kept the same FW feeling we all love and enjoy. Lots of green space, open areas, FW wildlife ( preferably the kind that make good neighbours), walking trails, the sound of boat whistles, etc.
There seems to be a great demand for sites at FW. My concern is that as Wilderness Lodge expands toward Fort Wilderness it could become eclipsed.

I would suspect that this was just a TA who happened upon some people at the Front Desk that relayed some rumored expansion. I mean, seriously, do you really think that Disney is holding meetings with a TA about their possible expansion. Probably alot of the people working at the Front area don't know much more than we do. But some new enticements at the Fort would be nice but hope they don't do any DVC building because that would ruin the camping atmosphere currently at the Fort. Only time will tell.

There's apparently a new dining pavilion in the works...

I also read that it's a permit started in 2011 and it was just withdrawn

Relocating the Mickey's Backyard BBQ Pavilion from behind Pioneer Hall to behind The Settlement Trading Post has been in the plans for years to make room for the DVC behind Pioneer Hall and in the River Country area. They also planned to relocated the Tri-Circle D Horse Barn up to the front area near where the Horse Rides are offered.

Sounds like more DVC headed our way near us. We have old threads regarding this. I might try to find and bump them momentarily. Been awfully busy this past week.

There was a 2010 thread then one from 2011:

http://www.disboards.com/threads/new-dining-pavilion-for-fw.2714508/#post-40992886

Another 2011: http://www.disboards.com/threads/th...-mouseplanet-this-week.2796774/#post-42574598

Multi-year 2010-2012: http://www.disboards.com/threads/proof-the-rumors-are-true-tcd-relocation-plans.2583303/

2014 which is the same story basically: http://www.disboards.com/threads/is...ss-dvc-that-is-planned.3220067/#post-50447353

Obviously the Pavilion and the Horse Barn would have to be the first to go.

It may finally be happening. The Poly DVC is done. WL conversions and cabins are under way. Next in the mill was a rumor of CBR but this River Country/Fort Wilderness DVC has been on the drawing board for years. Wonder if they are going to pull the trigger finally?

PS - tiggerdad posted the plans again in this thread in 2014: http://www.disboards.com/threads/if-there-were-a-fw-vacation-club.3478457/#post-55063088
