Haven't been around to rent in a long time, came back and rented and had to pay 11/pt, and that was CHEAP!

Is demand skyrocketing, or are people just trying to turn a profit on their unused points now?? Either way it stinks, I rented about 2yrs ago and I got at 9/pt! I remember when u saw 10/pt posts and those were ur last resorts lol.

So if everybodys charging 12/pt, what's to stop me from just saying TO HECK WITH IT and going somewhere like David's DVC Rentals and letting them do all the work for an extra dollar a point? Anybody wanna fill me in on what I missed in 2 years? :confused3 lol

Our annual dues goes up every year so our cost to retain our membership goes up and up and up. So I can see that affecting rental prices. I have never rented for as low as $9 so you got a good deal 2 years ago.

Really?? Wow I was renting alot back then and I almost never had to go with the 10/pt posts!

But I totally forgot about those annual dues :sad2: ugh..

I really don't see how anybody could or would buy into it at this point, its sooooo crazy expensive! And apparently its going up again?? A girl at work bought in last year and she was telling me how they gave her a bonus sign on amount of points, then she used her current points AND borrowed from the next year, all to go on a Disney Cruise! I went on a similar cruise last year and paid 550/person. How could they equate 550/person to all those points!??! lol

Forgive me, at this point I'm just rambling :hyper:

What work do you think you are doing that you will no longer have to do?
I think it is great for you to rent from David's. I often recommend them on this site. But as a person renting, you do no work. You just pick resort and desired dates just as you would if you owned DVC. Dates are subject to availablilty for both owners and people seeking to rent. There is no work for you to do. The "work" is done by David's and the owners.

I consider finding a seller, getting together with them to discuss when/where, calling dvc to see what's available, etc etc - "work". I was also assuming they would put together the rest of your trip as well, flights, tickets, etc.

Using DVC points for anything other than a DVC stay is usually a premium use of points. People still do it and Disney keeps raising the number of points required.

Raising the number of points?? I thought they weren't supposed to do that?? Or was that guarantee just on the regular villas? I was blown away by what they had to do, she bought something around 230pts so to borrow AND have to use the bonus they got, wow..

They are not travel agents, no one including David's is going to book a trip like a travel agent would. They simply book the accommodation, the rest is up to you.

Also noticed ur timer Bill, where are u staying?? My favorites so far have been The Beach Club and Boardwalk, I have been to others (don't let my signature fool you lol it hasn't been updated in a long time!) but they just don't seem to compare to the feeling those give me....plus being so close to EPCOT/HS at the same time is never a bad thing :thumbsup2

Ahhhh, good to know! Wow and they have been charging 13/pt ever since the 9&10/pt days, I guess it makes sense to pay the extra if you find the whole process too confusing.

It is a great service for beginners or those that don't want to invest the time to find a rental. Also since they hold half of the payment until check in, it gives a partial feeling of security.

As to raising the points, I think Bill was referring to points required to cruise.

Like anything else, it's what the market will support. Two years ago, perhaps the market supported $9 a point. Today, not so much. And, no, there is nothing preventing anyone from going off to a place such as David's if one doesn't mind paying the extra $$. Best of luck.

The total points for the year for DVC resorts only can not be changed. They do lower points for some rooms while increasing others to keep the total the same. THV just had a increase so other SSR rooms or periods had a decrease.

Points required for stays outside of the DVC resorts see an increase each year. That includes RCI and DCL, plus there is a $95 booking fee.

Well thanks alot for the conversation and all the info, guys! But I have to sign off now because apparently its fun to harass people (Not referring to any of you, not to worry!), so everybody have a great day and hope your next trip is soon! :thumbsup2

We have stayed at all of the DVC resorts except Aulani and VGC many times over the years.

Staying at BWV, our current favorite.

Oh wow how did u like Hilton Head and Vero Beach? Is the Disney input similar to the cruises? As in here and there and not 100% in your face?

Also, the last minute deals Dave's DVC has in their montly emails really can't be beat, incredible prices. I don't mind staying at SSR! Its beautiful!
