Creator of the ham and pineapple pizza. A bit controversial because some think it's an insult to pizza, but I'll enjoy one every now and then.

I'm not a purist on my pizza toppings, but I wasn't that fond of ham and pineapple pizza when I finally tried a slice about a year ago. But then I was never a fan of those ham recipes from the 70s where people put slices of canned pineapple on ham.

Pineapple glazed ham? You need cherries too.

I've frankly seen some odd things on a pizza. Yes I have seen a broccoli pizza (broccoli rabe actually).

Brocolli and brocolli rabe with sausage are types u would see around here in a pizzeria NEver saw pineapple and ham as an option for a slice.

Hawaiian pizza!!!

At least that is what I've always seen it called.

I've seen a menu from a Honolulu pizza place that had ham and pineapple. They called it "The Haole".

I live near the epicenter of California pizza, so broccoli rabe isn't unheard of. However, there are still chain pizza places like Domino's.

My favorite pizza is olive oil with Italian or Greek seasoning, marinated artichoke hearts, capers, feta cheese, kalamata olives, spinach, roasted red peppers, etc. Or maybe tied with just a pepperoni NY/NJ style pizza.

I sensed the evil leave the universe, this traitor to a great thing, should be buried face down :p;)

That sounds great!

Meh :confused3, FWIW none of us are doing it right. I just got back from Italy and ate pizza from one end of the country to the other. None of it had any of the things we put on pizza. Crushed tomatoes and cheese, basil, maybe a tiny bit of crumbled sausage or sliced mushrooms. No pepperoni, no onion, no olives or peppers, no anchovy and most certainly no broccoli!! And they would be totally perplexed by the abomination we call deep-dish pizza. :sad2:

Pizza is like Taco, of course it was invented in Italy but perfected in the USA, also dont give me any of this "authentic Mexican Food" if ya want a good taco, go to taco bell

Gotta say I agree. The food in Italy was great but I'd still rather have a good ham and pineapple, eh! ;)

Deep-dish isn't all that different than some types of pizzas found in Italy. I think the kind in Sicily is called "sfincione". I worked with several Italians, and one time I came back to the office with one of these rectangular slices, and one Italian saw it and said "Oh, Sicilian". One time another Italian coworker was willing to go with us for a Chicago-style stuffed pizza. My Italian manager loved all sorts of pizzas and was more concerned with quality rather than authenticity.

However, my manager did kind of roll his eyes when he mentioned that his kid wanted to go to California Pizza Kitchen.

I love Margherita pizza which is supposedly fairly authentic. California Pizza Kitchen has a variation.

It's a ubiquitous Canadian thing, like ketchup chips and gravy on fries. On pizza night we never just get Hawaiian, but we never don't get Hawaiian, KWIM?

Yep! In our family, ordering a ham and pineapple pizza is the equivalent of ordering a cheese pizza in most other households. It is practically an unstated given that one will be ordered. "Okay, we are ordering a ham and pineapple...what other kind of pizza does everyone want?"

I was surprised on a trip to Ireland one time, that we were still able to order ham and pineapple pizza. It was a little different presentation than we were used to, but the fact that it was available at all in this little pizza joint was amazing. After 3 weeks of travel, we were just looking for a little taste of "home" and were able to find it.

Also, when we were living in a different part of the U.S., some of the pizza places used to call a ham and pineapple pizza "The Canadian," based on it's popularity with Canadian tourists, I would assume (or perhaps its use of Canadian bacon, but we liked to think they were making it just for us!)

I'm from a part of California where there probably hasn't been some item or another that hasn't made it to a pizza. Everything from super traditional Italian style, to corn kernels or Yukon gold potato slices. Some even come with a lime wedge to squeeze. The broccoli pizza from Inside Out was inspired by a related group of real places that do one vegetarian selection per day.

However, earlier I did mention the place in Honolulu but didn't explain it. Their menu actually says "Mainlanders might call it a 'Hawaiian'". "Haole" may or not be an insulting way to refer to Caucasians, so the implication is that it's ordered by white tourists.

One of the most amazing things I've ever eaten in my life was the house special at Osteria Mozza in Los Angeles - bacon, onion, sliced potato and garlic over bechamel with toasted parmesan and an egg on top. Calling it pizza might have been a bit of a stretch for my sensibilities but the flavour made the angels sing...:littleangel:

Some thirty or forty years ago, I had an escargot pizza at Pizza Mella in Montreal. It was a big hit with the both of us.
