When we took off the pool cover we noticed there was a rip in the liner. My dh said he could patch it my mother said we should replace the liner. I dont feel like replacing the liner if I don't have too. I'm not really sure how old the liner is, the pool was already here when we bought the house. Should we replace the whole liner, or would a patch do the trick?
Thanks
Tara

We have a hole somewhere in our liner too but can't find it. Our liner is close to 15 years old anyway so it's time for a new one. The guy came down last week and gave us an estimate. It is going to cost us $3800 and that includes labor and refilling the pool. No bad but we have a small inground. The new liner we chose is very pretty and now I can't wait to see it but it won't be in until late June. I guess it depends on how old your liner is and if you have a guarantee. Does it look like it is in good shape overall? It is wrinkly or faded? When did you buy the house?

I had my above ground pool installed and in a matter of 2 months there was a hole in the bottom of the liner. The place I bought it from and who installed it gave me a new liner after I blasted them. I did NOT want them touching my pool again (that was not the first screw up I had with this one company) so I took the liner and had different people whom I knew come in and install it. It cost 200.00 for the liner replacement and some sand to go under it. Liner replacement for above ground pools is fairly cheap. I could have patched the hole I am sure but how long until that patch started to leak.....
Oh and let me add....NEVER EVER do business with Island Recreactional!!! They are the WORST....I did a stupid thing when I dealt with them..normally I check the BBB before any purchase I make, this time I was so happy to buy a pool I just jumped in without researching....well....Based on BBB files, this company has an unsatisfactory record with the Bureau..... live and learn huh!!

Maybe this is true is some cases, but we have an above ground pool (which cost over $8000) and it has a liner that is the equivalent of an inground pool liner. It's certainly not cheap!! I think the cost of our liner was well over $1000 alone. I don't mean $1000 either, I really mean well over! If you replace it with a $200 dollar liner, you'll have your moneys worth and nothing more. Where is the leak? We've had one that's been above the skimmer and it's fine. I also have a good friend that has an inground, and she's used the patches with excellent results when it's been lower than the skimmer. I'd suggest you try that before installing a lesser liner. If it doesn't work, you get a new liner.

We had the same situation here when we took the cover off a few weeks ago. We have drained the entire pool and have a new liner ready to go in.

The liner was free, it was a replacement for the one that ripped (actually they didn't clean the area and it was a root that came through the bottom.) The 200 was the cost to take it out and put a new one in.

If you paid over $ 1,000 well over $ 1,000 for a inground liner you have been taken! I have beaded 30 mil thick linner with the inground bottom design and paid about $ 300 for it. 20 Year Warranty. It's not the largest pool but not the smallest pool either. Next time shop around.

We had that same situation last summer, hired a scuba diver to find holes and patch, only cost $250.00, he found 3 or 4 little tears, come find out, it came from where a giant mud-turtle that had gotten into the pool.Too funny, but was glad, liner is only 4 yrs. old nana2tots:Pinkbounc

We had a fairly significant hole (actually 2) under the ladder at the end of the summer last year. We figured it was the end of the season so we would patch it.... we figured if it lasted the winter we would be good to go. We bought a vinyl patch kit from the pool store (about $6) and I played "diver" and patched it. We will put a pad of some sort over it this spring before we put the ladder down. It has held for the winter, so hopefully we are all set for a few years. But I do understand that the life of our liner is now significantly shortened. Our hole was created by a ladder that refuses to sit still!! Why do they sell pool ladders that want to float!! We usually have to bungie cord a cement block under it to keep it down....................P

If you do patch, do it from the back side. Take the liner out of the track, patch on the back, replace liner in track.

Much prettier AND the weight of the water pushes the liner onto the patch.

That's not too bad, least IMO to have it installed. I hope things worked out after for you!

As to the other person who commented on our liner costing over $1000. That's for an above ground pool, it's not even an inground. I've seen the cheap above ground pool liners, and I do not want anything to do with them.
