Riding out hurricane Dolly

Hurricane Dolly hit us as a Cat 2 storm this morning. I'm in McAllen and surprisingly, we still have electricity. Many communities around us lost power hours ago. From what I understand from local TV... we haven't felt the worst yet. (We're a little further inland.... the eye is coming our way) The worst will hit us this evening.... and then I'm sure we'll be without power.

I've been glued to the Weather Channel all day..... but I jumped online to get the latest from NOAA.

My boys have been excited/ scared....... but for the most part they've handled the uncertainty pretty well. DS8 is physically disabled but we took all precautions to make sure we were ready incase an evacuation was necessary.

Anyone else down here riding it out???

Not as far south as you are....I'm about 2 hrs. north in Alice. Just wind and rain here-good luck to you and your family!:cheer2:

Hi! I just found this thread. Fellow Hurricane survivor from Harlingen here. We were "only" four days without electricity and have potable(is that the right word for drinkable?) water. Portions of our city are still without power and have to boil their water. DH was in Europe and couldn't fly into Harlingen because 3 days after the hurricane, the airport was still closed. He flew into McAllen but the Highway there had flooded/closed areas. What a mess this is!

4 days! eek! I thought two days in 100 degree heat with 100 degree humidity was bad! I can't imagine what people must feel like in other parts of the Valley that are still without power.

I also can't believe that parts of expressway 83 were still flooded over this weekend.

We (the valley as a whole) was NOT ready for this storm. We take hurricane warnings way too lightly. On Tuesday evening it was "just" a tropical storm.... but landfall on Wednesday it was a Cat. 2 storm. The weather can change very quickly and very drastically.

A friend of mine was at the island in her condo when the storm hit. She said it was unbelievable that the storm sat on them for so long. The storm damage at the island is terrible..... I think the Radisson will be closed down for a long time.

Live and Learn!

BTW.... I thought I was the lone Diser in the Rio Grande Valley. Nice to know a neighbor is here.
