Rides with your DSLR

Just wondering if it is safe to take your camera on the rides. I have no intention of taking any pictures on the rides, ftr. However this will be our first trip without a stroller and rider swap. In other words, I have to keep my camera with me at all times. I got a great back pack to carry it in, that is very comfortable, and I cannot imagine being in the parks without my camera, it would be like being naked, imo. However, I am very concerned about the safty of my camera and lenses on rides like expedition everest. Will my camera get damaged? It will be in the bag, but those rides get pretty rough. I am just confused, I don't want to go without my camera, but I don't want to miss the best rides either.
If it matters the bag is the Tamrac Aero 70.

What has everyone else's experience been?

You shouldn't have any issues on the rides with the camera stored - keep it in its bag, and most of the rides either provide a storage/netted area, or you can brace it in between your knees or feet - I usually take the extra step to hold the strap or wrap it around my ankle, for that 'just in case' it slipped out of my grip. Haven't had any issues on Big Thunder or Space Mountain, both of which I've been on while carrying my DSLR (though not shooting with it). I'm actually wanting to try some shots on Big Thunder next time because it's not that hard to hold on that one.

Thanks for your reply. My husband says leave it at home, but I cannot imagine going without it. I have taken my smaller bridge in the past, but recently unloaded it, so the only other option is our point and shoot, and well, um, no.

Disney pictures is one of the main reasons I got a DSLR. I say take it and use it on the rides!

My DSLR goes on every ride with me, even water rides......i just put it in a waterproof pouch for those obviously!

for me, one of the thrills of the ride is trying to get decent pictures on haunted mansion or peter pan! :rotfl:

I've never had a problem having my camera with me on the rides. i've always been able to either hang onto it, or there's been room to store it under the seat

Don't leave it at home. It will be fine in a bag between your feet on the rides. If you are worried about the bag falling out just put your leg in one of the straps.

Either leave the camera around your neck or get a nice bag for the camera.

You can bring it on the rides just fine. I'm a big dude (working on getting smaller, trust me) and I've been able to bring my camera & backpack on all the rides I've tried.

Carrying the camera on rides is no big deal at all. Heck, I was able to even bring my tripod on Space Mountain with me!

Taking pictures can be fun though a bit distracting. I think it's best to experience the ride without thinking about the camera, then later you can try to take photos.... like this:

I've even taken photos during Rock 'n' Rollercoaster...
