Rides - motion sickness?

I'm planning to go to Disney for the first time in many many years. I have some issues with motion sickness. Can someone tell me how you would rate the following attractions for motion sickness and scariness?

Soarin
Test Track
Space Mountain
Tower of Terror
Dinasaur
Kali River

Thanks a million. I see that many of them say motion sickness, but don't know if they are really that bad. I don't like to spin. I know some of you are seasoned roller coaster riders, I am not. Don't like anything too crazy. :)

I get motion sick pretty easily and can not ride all those rides one after the other. I can't do carousels or swings without getting queezy.

Soarin: There are a couple of spots where the camera makes a long swooping motion that gets to me. You can close your eyes on this and it is fine. Otherwise it is a pretty benign ride.

Test Track: This is like being in a go cart thorugh some scenes inside and some of the turns just get me started on being queezy but it never gets full on bad. I ride this every trip.

Space Mountain: I get a bit sick on this but will still ride it occasionally.

Tower of Terror: This one is tricky because sometimes I get sick and sometimes not at all and sometimes inbetween. The ride doesn't last long so I ride this every trip but not two times in a row!!! This one is a bit scary if you don't like the feeling of falling/dropping.

Dinasaur: Has a lot of motion to it, sometimes in the dark, jerking around like a bucking bronco while moving forward on the track fast and slow and around turns, and can cause motion sickness pretty easily for me...but not enough to not ride it. :) I personally think this is one of the more scary rides at theme parks. One scene at the end is particularly loud and terrifying.

Kali River: This ride is the easiest as far as motion sickness. I do not get sick...unless the raft starts spinning to much but even then it doesn't last long, unlike the raft ride at Disney's California Adventur which has some sort of simple mechanism that spins the raft just as you go dow the last hill and the raft dosn't stop spinning until the end of the ride!!!!

I suggest you try all of these rides but allow time to recuperate afterwards. The only one I could really ride two times in a row would be Kali River Rapids. I could do Soarin a second time but would have to close my eyes more on the secound go round.

Unfortunately, this is really individual. For me, the only rides that make me nauseous are the original Mission Space (new version is fine, though I do gaze wistfully at the other line...) and the kiddie ride at Disney Quest where you put on a virtual reality helmet and pretend to be flying a magic carpet - that one had me feeling ill for hours. On the other hand, my mother absolutely cannot handle iMax screens and would probably have to spend all of Soarin' with her eyes closed........... she wouldn't even consider the other rides.

Since you did ask, though, here are a few thoughts. :-)

Test Track, no big deal. There is a short section that's fast at the end, but most of it is pretty tame. One surprise along the way, but not one that'll make you ill.

Kali, no big deal. Unless you're so susceptible to seasickness that you couldn't be on a pool float, you'll be fine. One drop, more about "Will I get soaked?" than about scariness.

Soarin' - if you like IMAX movies, this will be fine. If IMAX movies make you ill, this probably will, too.

Space Mountain and ToT - both mainly in the dark if that's an issue. SM not scary unless coasters in general scare you. ToT can be surprising the first time since you're not 100% sure what to expect, but again, it's scary only if the particular type of ride scares you in general.

Dinosaur...... A couple of startle/surprise/scare moments, one of which is good enough that they take your picture then. The motion is an issue for some, but it seems that most complaints I see are more about the herky-jerky nature of the movement than anything else. The car will jerk you in different directions, which could be an issue if you have medical concerns or just don't like to be whipped in different directions in a way-less-than-smooth manner.

Hope that helped some. :)

Thanks for the info! I am excited about going and this has eased my mind a bit. Anyone that is super sensitive your thoughts? I'm not super sensitive, but then again, it's been awhile. I can't ride a merry go round and cup and saucer type rides would do me in for a day. I used to be able to do this stuff, but unfortunately after a bad illness I haven't been able to. I just don't want to be a bore for my family.

I use meclizine, about $10 for a hundred at Walmart (ask at the Pharmacy counter...the ones out on display are about 4 bucks for 8). Used to be Rx-only but is now OTC. So now, the only one of those rides that bother me is Space Mountain, and that is because it's so jerky. None of the others causes even a single moment of "quease". This from someone who gets carsick pretty easily. Meclizine is my wonder drug.

I'm prone to motion sickness also, especially the spinning rides. I avoid those at all cost. But I used to do roller coasters just fine, until I reached the ripe ol' age of.... :rolleyes1

On our last trip we did Space Mountain first, and once i got off I realized that I'm not as tough as I used to be. So I took to taking a dramamine every morning before i left for the parks and I was fine after that. I still didn't do spinning rides, but I was fine on everything else.

Soarin: One of my favorites. It's like being on a swing. No spinning, and no harsh turns. The images on the screen go by like they would if you were riding in a car and looking at the horizon. It really is one of the most pleasant rides I have ever been on.

Test Track: It's roller coaster fast, with zigs and zags, but no hills, or loops. At times it's very bumpy. I wasn't impressed by this ride, but I didn't hate it. And it didn't bother me in terms of motion.

Space Mountain: It's a roller coaster, in the dark. The fact that you can't see the next turn or hill adds to the excitement. If you don't like roller coasters I don't think you'll enjoy this.

Tower of terror: It's not twisty or turny. But it's intense, in my opinion. Ever get that feeling in a car when you go over a bump that youre not expecting and you get that "rolly" feeling in your tummy? Well TOT is that feeling for a few minutes. You don't know when you will drop. And they drop you numerous times.

Dinosaur: This is my favorite ride  It's very intense but not at all like a roller coaster. It's bumpy, twisty, turny and scary!!! But I loved it! I thought it was so different from all the other rides. If you don't like intense you probably won't like this one either. But it didn't make me feel sick at all.

Hope this helps. Try taking some medication in the mornings before you ride. Then you can decide on what you want to experience based on other factors besides feeling motion sick.

I have motion sickness troubles, too. I am pretty much OK on the rides you mentioned....with some time in between.

What makes me REALLY sick is the carousel near the castle in MK and the Tea Cup ride. I made the fatal mistake of riding those tea cups early in the morning with my kids and DH back in 1999, and I was sick the rest of the day.

You won't be a bore missing a few rides that might bother you. *I* was a terrible bore the day I was sick and crabby after those tea cups though.

The one ride that my kids love to ride, but makes me feel very sick is Primeval Whirl in Animal Kingdom. It is a typical "fair" type ride - very similar to Tilt-a-Whirl. Makes me very queezy. And I agree that while I can handle the larger roller coaster rides without a problem, the carrousel and tea cups don't make me feel very good either.

Space Mountain is fun and doesn't make me feel sick, but a few weeks ago after getting off my neck was pretty sore. That ride does a good job on your neck with it's quick turns.

I loved Everest and during the ride I thought it was fun and pretty smooth, but after getting off I realized that my legs were shaking a little. Like Rock N' Roller Coaster, it is so powerful for a sustained time that my body feels the effects of it once I am off and back on land. It sure is fun though!

Soarin' is AWESOME and did not make me feel bad at all. Nice, smooth, thrilling ride. I think it might be my favorite. People clap when it's over.

Have fun!

Hi... here's my input.

Soarin= wonderful - no problem at all
Kali River = should be no problem

These... some times DH used to complain but with ginger tablets he's fine
Test Track
Tower of Terror
Dinasaur

He did Mission Space and said it was pretty rough... but that was before they had the new MS Light version.

I would definitely try the ginger tabs, just over the counter from the health food store. There are no side effects, they are pefectly safe and they really help.
