Rider Switch Question

My husband and I will be taking our three kids (7,6,6) to DL in May. Would we be able to use rider switch to have 1 adult with 1 kid on a ride at a time?

For example, on space mountain, we don't want the 7 year old on a ride vehicle by himself with 3 others, nor do we want him waiting in line by himself. Could we have dad go with one kid, cow back, go with another kid, then I go with the 3rd kid? Meanwhile we all enter the ride line together?

Technically, No. The swap is for children that do not meet the size requirements. You sound like all your kids can ride, so they can say no if they are following the rule.

If you got 4 FPs, Parent 1 rides with child 1 using FP. Parent 1 or 2 rides with child 2 using FP, obtains swap. Parent 1 or 2 rides with child 3 using swap.

If you all wanted to enter the line together, the best configuration would probably be to have the 7 year old in the middle row with a parent in front and behind.

In the Space Mountain example, all of you could ride. Parent 1 with 6 year old, 7 year old in row alone and parent 2 with other 6 year old. Each SM ride car has 3 rows of 2 seats each so your 7 year old will not have to be in a ride vehicle alone.

They won't make the 7 yr old ride in his own vehicle, unless you send him in a single rider line. Same with something like toy story. Parent with a 6 yr old on one side, 7 yr old on the other, parent with 6 yr old in next car. My 7 and 9 yr old loved being able to ride 'by themselves'.

On TSMM the solo rider could end up facing the same side as whoever is in the 4th seat in the vehicle during the games. You might want to prepare them for the possibility, but that you'll be behind them and see them when the ride is over. There's no rider swap for TSMM.

I am confused about rider switch. I thought it is for adults who have to stay behind the group to watch a child who can't (or doesn't want) to go on a ride. Is it used for more purposes than this? Seems that if everyone was using rider switch for their own various reasons - the wait times would be even longer for everyone.

This is exactly what it's used for. What other methods have you seen suggested? If you're talking about the suggestion of combining it with FP, that is allowed.

To the OP, I don't believe they'll allow you to use rider swap in the way you're suggesting, but others have given you some solutions. And in using rider swap, you don't all get in line together. The people saying off would get the swap card from the first group to go on and then would be directed through the fastpass line (or alternate entrance if the ride doesn't have FP).

Well the situation that the OP described doesn't seem to necessitate rider swap - all the kids can go on the ride. I don't understand why it would be needed in that case.

Rider Switch can only be used for a child that is too short for the ride, NOT for when a child who is tall enough is scared to ride.
I have asked about this and they would not budge and give me the rider switch pass. We used FP instead to take turns quicker.

Thanks everyone - it helps to know what it can and can't be used for. I like the idea of using FP for those rides that use it to go with the older child. I just don't want to leave him on his own in a separate vehicle.

I've been wracking my brain and I can't come up with a single ride where he'd be in a separate vehicle. He would always be within an arms reach of one parent or another.

Toy Story is the most obvious, as someone mentioned. But he wouldn't ride with a stranger, he'd ride completely alone in the same car but out of sight and touch. Screamin' (not sure about height) could also be an issue if they're all tall enough to ride as they could put a single rider with him. He'd be visible in front of them, but a stranger would be next to him. Most rides though it shouldn't be an issue. Our oldest turns 7 before our trip and I'm glad because otherwise there would be some rides it could be difficult to all ride, though not all of ours are tall enough for everything.

True on Toy Story he'd be behind one parent/sibling car but more than likely at each screen would be beside the other parent/sibling pair. Even on Screamin though he might sit in a separate row and possibly with a single rider he'd still be in the same car as the parents and within arms' reach.
