Rider switch conflicting info

In my experience - over the past 7/8 years we Have Not been able to get a RS pass when the child is tall enough but chooses not to ride. If I am giving bad advice so be it - but maybe the OP should plan for not being able to use RS and then it would be a bonus if a CM does allow it?

Just one of many examples - on TOT when my nephew was just over 40 inches we were denied a RS pass when he was measured. We were offered to switch at the boarding area and then take the the chicken exit but he was afraid to even wait the queue so we took turns. We have gently tried to clarify with a CM without making a "stink" but for us arguing with the CM and or telling them what may be on a website (even the official site which is very wrong) doesn't work.

Most recently we asked at Soarin during our December trip knowing it was a 50/50 shot but my 5yo niece doesn't care for it but is barely tall enough and they also said no - it was a choice not a Disney imposed restriction.

FWIW the website also says the RS pass is good for 2 riders when in reality it is good for up to 3 riders.
That's your experience. I'm telling mine. It seems people are really adamant about this. I've been going to Disney along time too and I've had different experience's. I see nothing wrong with saying that. I think it's wrong to just say it's not allowed and to not mention that there are lots of reports of people getting them for their too tall scared child. This seems almost like people protest too much when this subject comes up. I wonder why?

OP - If you want to know how likely it is you'll get a rider switch, just do a search for 'rider switch' on this forum and review past threads. I think you'll find the vast majority of people with actual experience have said they've only gotten them when the child isn't tall enough to ride. In our experience we've had to show the child that isn't tall enough to get one.

If you review past threads you will see there is always people saying they get rider switch for their too tall child. Do you think all those people are just making it up?

Not going to argue -

I related my experience over several years that is all I can do. Personally I would not rely on RS with a child who meets the height requirement as according to my conversation with a few Disney CM's it is a choice not to ride vs a Disney imposed restriction and doesn't qualify for a RS pass.

Have others had exceptions - definitely but I have not had that luxury unfortunately.

I would hope the OP can get a RS pass, maybe we will be able to get one in March as well who knows but I won't plan on it.

With FP+ in place I would not risk a must do ride by expecting a RS pass vs getting a FP+ if it is a ride your party wants to enjoy.

I wouldn't risk it either and not get a fast pass. I don't know why you would think to. I'm saying plenty of people get them. There is no harm in asking the CM. I've had a lot of Luck. I think the OP should know their options.

If he's well over the height (as opposed to just making it) I wouldn't count on getting the pass (especially if it's a crowded park time). But it's always possible depending on cast member. But you are definitely not entitled to one. You may very well get it one day and then not get one the next day on the same ride.

I got two or three a day for two weeks. Never a problem:)

thank you everyone!

For the person who asked about what the downside is about asking and not getting it.....if I KNEW we could get rider switch, I would do my fastpasses differently. So what I have learned from this is I will do my fastpasses the way I have always done them.....and I will ask for a rider switch, and if we get it, great, if not, we haven't lost out on anything.

what I was "concerned" about was that I *could* be stretching our 3 fastpasses into 6, and we weren't doing it. Looks like I've been doing things correctly.
