I am a chicken when it comes to rides. :scared: I am planning my first trip to DL but have been to WDW many times. The biggest rollercoaster I will go on is BTMR-- and I usually only ride once. I did try SpaceM but I did not like it. It was too jerky and I did not like being in the dark and not seeing what was coming ahead. I had to sit for 15 mins and have some water after the ride. I do go on SplashM because I can handle just one big drop but that drop does push me to my limit. I was wondering if the Matterhorn is comparable to BTMR? Also I read the drop on SplashM is worse at DL than WDW! Is the drop more intense?

Matterhorn is a great coaster but it is a little rougher then BTMR. There's a tiny bit inside the mountain but you can see where you are going for the most part. To keep you from sliding around in your seat you'll want to have 2 passengers-trust me!

The drop on Splash is pretty big. But the good news is it doesn't last for long. Other than that Splash is pretty mild.

Are you thinking of doing Screamin'? It is a great coaster, very smooth, all outside, and you can see where you are going.

Have a great time!

This is what I have read.

DLR's Space is entirely different in feel than WDW's Space.

In fact, most say that WDW's Space is more related to DL's Matterhorn than to DL's Space. So if you did not like WDW's Space, you might not like the Matterhorn. Space is still in the dark at DL, though...I prefer to sit further back in the ride vehicle; nearly had a freakout being in the very front seat.

As far as I have read, BTMRR is about the same at both parks.

I've read that the end drop is about the same at both parks, but since you sit one in front of the other (except for the very back seat, where you can fit an adult and a child or two small adults side by side), it can make it feel worse to some. However, there are two smaller "weeeee" type mini drops inside the ride itself that don't seem to be in WDW's version. They are sort of like the little drops in Pirates. Worth knowing about.

DH keeps trying to get me to ride the newer smoother roller coasters but I just don't think I will like the loop.

I will ride Splash because I love the rest of the ride. There are a few smaller drops in the WDW version too. As for Matterhorn I think I will send my family on first and see if they think I will like it.
Thanks for the replies!! :)

Based on your original post, sounds like you should avoid Space Mtn. I don't like crazy roller coasters either. I usually have a headache and a mild feeling of motion sickness by the end of Space. That being said, I love Big Thunder. The Matterhorn isn't really that "wild", but it is very jerky and can bang you around a bit if you aren't prepared.

One good thing to remember for any roller coaster with multiple cars: Riding in one of the front cars is a milder experience that riding in one of cars at the back. I'm sure a Cast Member will be happy to accommodate a request to be in a front car, you just might have to wait for the next "train".

The great thing about DL though is that there are so many indoor "dark rides" that are about telling a story rather than thrilling you with drops and turns, so there's something for everyone! Have fun!

I am like you. No upside down loops for me. No Tower of Terror for me. No Maliboomer (although that is going away). No Mickey's Fun Wheel of Death. No Silly Symphonies Swings (used to be the Orange Stinger). I have done all the Mountain rides in the past, and don't need to do them again (that huge drop in Splash is hard for me to get past, even though I did like the rest of the ride because the America Sings characters are in it!!:rotfl2:, so you are a braver soul than I for doing it)!!

Heck, it took me years and years in my childhood and early teen years to get over the terror of the drops in Pirates of the Caribbean, but now it is one of my top 2 favorite rides. I have a friend who still will not go on POTC to this day. She has never gotten over the fear of those drops. She won't even go on Star Tours anymore, and she used to ride it when she was younger. Now it scares her. She also won't go on Soarin,' because of the illusion of the drops....and that is a shame, because Soarin' is a fantastic ride.

re: Screamin'...fwiw, the loop is actually the easiest part of the ride. The forces of the ride actually drop off, and it's a moment that I can breathe, before starting the ride again. It's actually hard to tell you're in a loop, when you're in the loop (except for the whole "world looks upside down" part). Just my experience with loops! I prefer 'em!

I love Soaring too! :lovestruc I would not ride it at first or Test Track. Now they are my 2 favorite rides in EPCOT.

I have heard that before-- the loops are the easy part. I just don't think that ride is for me. I will be happily people watching or shopping while my family rides.

I haven't been on our Space Mountain for a while (probably a couple years), but I just rode WDW's SM in January. I was looking forward to it since they just rehabbed it and I hated it! When we go to DL over the next couple weeks, I have to fit in a trip on SM just to remember what ours is like.

Does it still have the giant chocolate chip cookie floating in space? I missed that at WDW. I hope we still have it!

My wife didn't like the upside down either. Now she just closes her eyes when she sees it coming. She can't even tell when she's through with the loop. Now she has no problem with it.

As a big ride chicken here as well, I can tell you that there is NOTHING in Disneyland that I have not been on. I actually rode Space Mountain 3 times this last trip (for the 1st time, and we've had AP's for 4 years). That was my final one to concur.

Space is SOOO much better at DL than at WDW. The jerkiness of the WDW version is what kept me away for so long, but, now I'm sorry I let that get in the way. It's much much smoother, and now I look forward to riding it again.

It took me a long time to get on BTMRR and Splash, but, now, we do stupid stuff for pictures and I don't feel the need to hold on on the final drop.

Matterhorn is Ok, but, it's jerky like Space at WDW, so, it kind of beats you up, but not intolerable; yet you can see where you are going, so that might help.

Rides I have yet to do at DCA are TOT, California Screamin' Mailiboomer, oh, and mickey's wheel of death. I have no desire to do any of those.

I'm a huge ride chicken too, so I understand your apprehension. But just go on the DL rides like Splash, BTMRR and SM and you'll be fine. Trust me, after a few times and you'll get over your fears. Now they are some of my favorites and it took me YEARS to not wait for my husband to do them by himself.
