The kids don't know about this trip (we have done surprises in the past).

This time we need to let them know that this is, for the most part, their Christmas gift this year.

I think I am going to get a large box and wrap it like a Christmas gift. There will be a bow on top and when each of the four kids pulls a part of the bow, the box will kind of just fall apart and open up.

Now, the tricky part is what to put in the box. I kind of want to do a riddle or poem of sorts but have realized I kind of am not good at this part.

Maybe you guys can help!

Here are some facts and if you have a line or two that you think might sound good, please feel free to share :)

1) Part of the reason for this trip is our oldest Daughter is a Senior in High School this year so it's kind of her Senior trip.

2) Another reason we are going is because we celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary this past April and we honeymooned in WDW. (My Husband said he wanted me to see the castle Christmas lights for my anniversary 'gift')

3) It is ultimately their gift. This trip will be cutting way into our Christmas budget so we will only be putting a couple of things under the tree this year (we usually go kind of crazy on this one day of the year). Three don't believe in Santa but one does.

I appreciate any help at all that you guys can give :) I will share the youtube link once it's complete :)

3)

Will they get the 'gift' before Christmas or Christmas Day? When is the trip?

I am taking my family on a Disney cruise. We will be staying at WDW Dec 27 and 28th then off to the cruise on the 29th.
Anyway, this is my grandchildren's Christmas present and I too am wondering what to do to make it a great Christmas surprise.

To the OP, FWIW, a few years ago I surprised my grandchildren by putting a bunch of helium filled balloons in a box and when they opened the box the balloons flew out. One of the balloons had a note attached telling them we were going to Disney the next morning.

Karen :)

If I knew your family and had more time, I could probably put together a good Night Before Xmas poem. I've done quite a few of them, for work and friends and family. Substituting names in there and funny things. Just off the top of my head, I whipped this together. I would do a letter from Santa. Make it look all official for the one that believes in Santa. Something like:

This Christmas gift is shared by all
Full of magic and fun galore!
A special year for your family-
Graduation and 20 year anniversary!
My elves have been so hard at work,
They put together something
That will make you go bezerk!
Open up this box very quickly
Because your family is going to see....

MICKEY!

And put a stuffed Mickey Mouse in the box. :)

The day after Halloween is a Saturday. Assuming 11/1 is a tad early to set up your Christmas tree, what about having a surprise brunch with a table-top sized tree, Christmas music playing, maybe some red & green decorated cookies, etc.

The kids will want to know what's going on, and you can explain that Christmas is coming early this year and that Santa has dropped a big box for the whole family. Then you go with your big box idea. They then have a couple of weeks to plan & get excited for the trip. :santa:

We just surprised our girls yesterday. We didn't do a poem but a Frozen song lyric scavenger hunt. The last clue was Love is an Open ______________. They then went to the door where there was a letter to read and then they opened the door and the box was on the front step.

That part won't help you much. When the girls opened the box, two balloons (one for each girl) floated out ... one had a note that said, "We're going to " and the other note said, "Disney World!!" Inside the box was a homemade countdown calendar, chart for earning Disney Dollars, Disney PJs, Minnie Mouse shirts (I found on clearance), and lanyards for pins.

I wanted to put our Magic Bands in the box but they didn't get here until today. It was so fun. Hope my box gave you some ideas.
