hello out there! i am new to this message board thing and have a question.....we are going back to the world at the end of sept.... it will be me,dh,dmil,ds8 and ds3..... my question is..... dh would like to do the richard petty driving experience(driving not the ride along) i don't know how far in advance this has to be booked and if they require a deposit on a credit card to hold a ressie. anyone have any info on this or has done this before???? sorry if this post in not in the right spot........ :cloud9:

DH just did this July 5th so I think I can help....You call 1-800-BE-PETTY to mke your reservation.
You should reserve in advance as they only take about 10 drivers at a time and only on certain days of the week.
You pay with your credit card when you make that call
If you have AAA you get a 20% discount...be sure to mention the AAA when you call, if you have it.
They send you liability waivers and a letter with all the information you need to know before the drive.
The 8 lap driving experience takes about 3 hours.
Choices of times were 8am or 1pm.
You have to be there 30 minuted before your reservation.
When you arrive they try to sell you a 3-lap ride along (140mph) to go with your 120mph max driving experience.
The add-on costs $79- cash or credit card.
They take dh's photo beside the car and in the car so they can sell them to him later.
Dh bought the plaque (which is really neat looking) for $70ish.
Family can go watch the driving but there are no stands to sit in, only a tent in the midfield. No A/C either so being summer and having small children we chose to send dh to drive while I played in the pool with the kiddies.
He, of course, loved it (but wished they would have let him go faster.)

If you have any other questions I'd be happy to try to answer them or get dh to the dis to answer them himself....have a fun trip!

I will have my 2 years old with me the day I planned to send DH to Rookie Experiences (my anniversary present for him). And I know my 2 years old WILL NOT sit still for 3 hours. But I don't want him come back without pictures to share with his friends and family if I won't go with him.

From your experiences. what time should I be there to take the photo? I will purchase the morning session of rookie experiences in Oct. Can anyone breakdown for the time for each steps so maybe I can schedule a early charactor breakfast in MK and came back to take the pictures for him? Do you think I will have enough time ? Thanks for any advise.

If I remember, you can show up after about 1 1/2 hours for the picture. About when to reserve, I called a few months in advance for info, and the person said I didn't need to actually reserve until about 3-4 weeks in advance of when DH wanted to do it.

If my DH does the Rookie Experience at 1:00 will we make it to MGM for our ADR at Mama Melrose FDP at 5:50? We will have a rental car.

it was 4 hours total for DH, that includes being there 30 minutes early and the time to drive back to the hotel after the whole thing was over. Hope that helps with the dinner question.

I have no idea the exact times for the day (pictures and all) because I have a little one and didn't go either. Sorry.

Last year, there was a great discount, around christmas time, I hope it comes out again, and it didn't have any expiration date, so people were buying them last year for Christmas presents.

Do you remember how much it cost after tax? I read in my AAA papers that you get a 20% discount with a AAA membership so I'm trying to figure out how much it would cost.
Thanks
