Wednesday May 11th:
Today was a leisurely "get-up". Friends of ours were coming over from Port Canaveral. So we had our breakfast and the phone rings a 9.04 am.......
Unfortunately, because of all the hot weather we'd been having there had been a major fire on the route out of Port Canaveral and they'd only just opened it. As you can guess, most of the population was now trying to get out.
We therefore took the opportunity to have a lazy couple of hours around Port Orleans French Quarter.
This also meant some shopping time in the hotel Disney store, so Victoria and I got our Disney mints, along with the customary T shirts, cups, throw etc. etc.
Luckily our friends turned up by 11.15am so we all got into Miss Piggy to drive over to th Magic Kingdom. We decided to park in the Polynesian car park as we were eating at the O'Hana that evening.
We went straight to the monorail and I managed to get 4 of us seats with the driver.
We made our way over to Splash Mountain via the Castle.
and picked up our fast passes to Splash Mountain. With an hour and a half to spare before our ride we went to Pocos Bill for lunch. Again using our Disney Dining Plan to buy all five of us a meal (using up a couple of our "spares"). Happily nourished we went over to Mickey's Philharmonic. This was the first time I'd been to this attraction and all I can say is "excellent". Wonderful smells of food as well.
We then made our way to Splash Mountain. Victoria and Avonia "Wussed" out by wearing ponchos, but I managed to pursuade them to ride at the front of the boat because, as I told them, when the water hits the boat it goes over the front and hits the people behind - I had them hook, line, sinker, and Fisherman's Weekly!!!
Of course the water hits the front of the boat, straight in the face, inside the hood and down the inside of the poncho. Me, I was dry.
Having picked myself off the floor, we made our way to see the Share a Dream Come True Parade.
We then went on Snow White. The crowds were now getting very large and the temperature was in the 90s again, so we decided to stroll back to the entrance. Walking back we noticed there was only a 5 minute queue for Haunted Mansion so we nipped in there. We took the boat back to the Polynesian and had a quiet drink before dinner at 6.00pm.
Again, the food was excellent and loads of it. Victoria loved the games, and yes I did do some Hawaiian dancing - hey! watch those hips gyrate!!
Following dinner we took the boat back to the Magic Kingdom an caught the train at Main Street - and I managed to get Victoria to be a guest guard and shout "All Aboard!". We went around to Toon Town and then strolled around to Main Street to take up our position for the fireworks.
The Wishes Nighttime Spectacular fireworks are really good, and I managed to get them recorded as well. When the show was over we allowed the crowds to leave before catching the boat back to the Polynesian to pick up Miss Piggy.
We had an uneventful journey back except for "Oh no! We've missed our turning" so it was another "U"ee to get us back on track. We then relaxed with an evening drink at the POFQ before saying goodnight to our friends and turning in for the night.
