wondering if you have one and if you use it on a regular basis or just for company etc?

Is it very easy to use? I just started using a crock pot so thought this might be another good additon?

opinions?

lisa

can you leave it plugged in all day like a crockpot?

I had a rice cooker and used it all of the time. It burned out and I have yet to replace it...boy do I miss it!

You put in the rice, add the water and flip a switch...out comes perfect rice! I can't seem to get the same rice consistancy on top of the stove:confused:

I wouldn't leave it plugged in all day, but honestly don't know if you can or cant'. After the rice was done, mine would shift to "warm" and if I left it awhile the rice at the bottom would get brown and crunchy...

My vote is too get one!

seeing as I am japanese yes, my vote is for a rice cooker. I don't think I can make rice without one...LOL! I recommend Zojirushi, Panasonic, National, or Tiger.

Some of the fancier models have timers on them...you can set the cook time. Mine is just "cook" and "keep warm." You can leave it on all day, but I wouldn't recommend it b/c the rice turns yellow. Also, if you don't fluff it up and leave it for an extended period of time, it will be a hard clump.

My recommendation is to wash and cook rice as soon as you get home. It only takes about 20 min to cook, let it sit for 10-15 min and then you can open up the rice cooker, fluff, and serve. It would probably take you about 30 min to get dinner on the table anyway, even if you do use the crock pot (for me, anyway!).

good luck! :thumbsup2

I'd be a bit concerned about leaving rice for a long time. All the advice here is that once its cooked, serve immediately and quickly cool any leftovers. Anything not eaten after 24 hours should be thrown away.

DH buys microwave packets!

we  our rice cooker!

We can cook 4 cups of rice in 20 mins and all we do is pour the rice in, add some water and flip that switch.

Easy-Pleasey.

Ours does not have a timer on it, so we have to cook it and get it out of the cooker or it will burn on the bottom.

When purchasing a rice maker, you might want to make sure it has insulation to keep the rice warmer longer (w/o using the 'keep warm' feature, or if the model does not have the 'warm' feature) &, I suppose, maybe uses less electricity if the cooker does not have to work so hard to maintain temp~
Stay cool exterior may be important to you, also.
