This may sound strange, but I was wondering if anyone could describe/compare the ribs at Hoop De Doo Review? My BF wants to go there and he's a big ribs guy, but I don't want to get there and have the ribs be bad. Any assistance at all would be greatly appreciated!!! :)

we have not gone for a while but in all honestly I did not care for any of the food at hoop de do do(once was more than enough) including the ribs...it was one of the only times I know of my rib fanatical husband to only eat a couple. Many do not agree but that was my experience (in plain words,,,It stunk!) from what i remember they ( and the chicken)were overcooked but greasy, like cheap , bad food that had been sitting around way to long. don't know how else to describe them. no one cared for it ( we went with 2 other families) . and I remember no one wanted seconds of anything! to each his own but either we hit a horrendously off night or maybe they have improved ( although it was difficult to get ressies when we went) or maybe I just know people who make exceptionally good ribs and chicken!(not me but friends )

My my DH and I just love the ribs at Hoop Dee Doo. They are the smoked kind, that some may find slightly dry. They are not dry, however. Neither me or my husband like the "fall off the bone" type of ribs, so we were plesently surprised. We have gone to the Hoop Dee Doo twice, and in all honesty I think the second time was to go for the food. Yummy. I love the Sangria as well.

I am more of a rib person than a fried chicken person. On our first HDD visit 3 years ago, I figured Id try the chicken then eat all ribs. Well, I thought the fried chichen was the best Ive ever had...awesome! I did like the ribs, but definitely ate more chicken. On our 2nd visit, 1 year ago, I noted while the ribs were in fact very good, they were a little tough, which again made the chicken more appealing to me. I mentioned that to my mother and she noted that some of hers were tough, but she also had some that werent. Maybe its just luck of the draw.
Overall I think the food and drink here is all very good, and well worth the price.

I don't eat ribs, but my husband and my father went through two buckets, they loved them!! The rest of us devoured the fried chicken and also went through a couple of buckets, it was delicious!!

Hoop-de-doo Food -

Hi, luvpooh,
We have been to the Hoop a number of times - the last this past July - and have found that the food in general has gotten better each time. The Chicken has always been good, and the ribs not as tough as they used to be, even though they are always tasty. The salad is nice and fresh and the Strawberry Shortcake we had the last time was excellent - almost like Momma used to make. But don't forget, even though the food is very good, the show is just great!!!! You will enjoy the whole experience. Have a most magical time! Bob

i wonder if maybe there is a difference in shows...we went to the late show and the food really tasted like it had been sitting around for hours...we are definitly BBQ lovers ( in search of the "perfect" BBq in N.C., found a good one last trip there) so maybe that is why the ribs seemed really lousy to me. and I have a friend who makes the best fried chicken I have ever eaten anywhere so that could account for the chicken but the fact remains, I would not go to HDD for the food ( don't know if that is just me or similar to the tonga toast/ dole whip phenomenom )(sorry if that is spelled wrong) I especially think it is weird since I read it is the same food for Trails end which we have always been happy with. maybe we got an off night as that junk was" food poisoning bad" but not willing to waste another $100 to find out! it reminded me of the food they sell around here at convenience stores/mini marts but with a much heftier price tag.

We did HDDR back in February and I was not a fan of their ribs. I like the kind that falls right off the bone! However I did like their fried chicken, the salad, beans, and bread. They gave 2 yo DD mac 'n cheese which she liked. We really liked the show, thought it was a hoot so we are going back this trip! :)

The food at HDDR is suspect. We enjoy the show the food is mediocre at best. DEFINETLY not something you do every trip.

We love HDD, we think the show is real riot and we enjoy the food and drinks. We do not care for the strawberry shortcake though.
But for great ribs, we prefer the ribs at Flame Tree barbeque much more than HDD's ribs.

Hi - we go to the HDD every other year. Sometimes the ribs are ver tender and great. Other times they are so tough you can hardly chew them. Hope you hit a good night!

I'm glad my mom never made Strawberry Shortcake like we were served at HDD. It was just dry white cake, with canned berries in a red syrup with a dried out dollop of fake whipped cream on top. Nothing like my Bisquik biscuit shortcake, split with a knife, fresh prepared strawberries in the middle and on top, covered with either half and half or real whipped cream.

The show is very fun, but the food is the worst.

If you want to see the show, by all means go to see the show. I wouldn't base my decision on whether or not people like the ribs. It has been my experience with dinner shows and character meals, that you are paying for the entertainment and not for spectacular food. If the ribs are your only reason to go to the Hoop Dee Doo, judging by the responses, you may want to look elsewhere.

I will be enjoying the show there in March and will post back on how we liked the ribs!
