Rhino's Wonderful World of Food(with pics) Updated 26th Sept !!!!!

Saturday 19th September

Lunch was a quick meal at the Electric Umbrella, nothing outstanding but okay I had the Caesar Chicken Salad DS had the kids chicken nuggets and DH had the Turkey and bacon sandwich with provolone cheese.. for him it's advenutous he has an aversion to cheese and tomatoes :lovestruc it was okay but the smokey flavour was a little strong for him.

Dinner Teppan Edo all I can say is WOW you've got to dine there once at least just to experience it. Our server was names Ayumu and she was great our chef was Eri funny and courteous and she even included the kids at the table in the conversations.

DH and I both got the Nihonbashi and he got the Sake sampler
P1000449.jpg

so the photos went out of the window ... erm well.. I had a taste it was good but a little like a very dry white wine to me. It was the first time DH had tried it and he liked it, DS asked for the Yori chicken breast with noodles and rice and he really liked it too if only he would eat like that at home:rolleyes1 A thoroughly enjoyable meal perfectly cooked the beef was just how we wanted it medium well :thumbsup2 the veggies and noodles were delicious and the atmosphere was good too well worth trying if you get the chance... we were not sure what to expect sharing a table with strangers but you know what it was great and enjoyable so go on give it a go. DH kept saying to me try an adult drink go on get yourself something but I was happy enough to just enjoy the evening as it was maybe next time;)

Tonight we are off to Planet Hollywood so I've got to check in again later, I know some of you are not keen on this place but we have not been there to dine in quite a while and I'm hoping it's as good as we remember it was back in 1998:thumbsup2

Hello again everyone where were we....?

Oh yes.. Sunday 20th September Planet Hollywood.
Well the plan for the day was to take it easy and hit DTD for dinner at 7:00 p.m.
we arrived in plenty of time and the place was a bit manic to be honest. They had an annoying DJ at the back of the restaurant who could be heard outside all 80's dance music and awful corny videos:confused3 WHY:confused3
We checked in outside and had photos taken and then had to wait for about ten minutes to have a seater show us to the table ( OMG it was loud) on the first floor near the stairs and the restrooms. There was no noticable new memorabilia on the walls near us just in case you were wondering.
We then had our server come over and introduce himself he seemed rushed but we let that go and gave him our drinks order and looked over the entrees Niel chose the Spicy Shrimp Pasta..
P1000464.jpg

Yvonne chose the L.A. Lasagna..
P1000465.jpg

Ethan chose the chicken tenders kids meal..
P1000466.jpg

They waited ages and ages for the food to be served:rolleyes1, when it arrived Niel declared the shrimp to be spicy and the portion size was huge. Yvonne loved the lasagna but found the last piece a little heavy on the cheese but tasty, Ethan just ate his meal never saying much but watching everyone go by. Before they could get the plates cleared the server came asking what they wanted for desserts, Ethan asked for ice cream the adults both asked for key lime pie .. now just think about this having seen other portions coming out of the kitchen for other diners that looked huge taking up a great deal of the plate they were brought a thin sliver each seriously each one was a third of the size of the portions others got to savour. So they tucked in expecting a nice crisp lime flavour and a crispy bottom to the thing and it was mush the base was not crisp but slightly soggy and the pie "filling" didn't taste of limes to Yvonne and Niel only found a hint of it, to Yvonne it was more like lychee flavour. All in all not that great a dining experience it dind't live up to expectations. If they go again they would avoid desserts in future.

Tuesday 22nd September
Kona Cafe.... well there were some "technical difficulties" here we still don't know why but anyway a reservation that should have been for an early lunch 11:10 a.m. ended up being luch a little after noon. After checking in the family were shown to a table and served by CM Maria a lovely lady and she was great with the boy. They both ordered the same entree again:lmao::lmao: the pan seared Mahi-mahi with noodles and baby bok choy in a spicy mushroom broth.
P1000515.jpg

The dish was a little like mild kippers or mackerel without the heavy oil texture sprinkled in spices and salt pan fried quicly then oven roasted. The noodles were soft and loaded with asian and other mushrooms  mmm delicious topped of with the bok choy cooked to perfection. Choice of cutlery or chop sticks were offered to eat it with.
The boy had a hot dog and fries and an ice cream sundae standard kids fare.
For dessert Niel orderd the Kalhua(sp?) chocolate cake
P1000518.jpg

It was a little dry buy not terrible he offered Yvonne a taste and she swapped him some of this beauty.. They had trouble working out what the filling was maybe chocolate with coconut and hazelnuts.
P1000516.jpg

Nice and light and creamy but tasting of coconut and complimented well with the lychees and raspberries and a bit of squirty cream perfect to end the meal or so they thought when this little extra came from the staff to say congratulations..
P1000517.jpg

After all that food they were stuffed to the gills so they spent a while talking with other UK Dis families at the Tambu Lounge.

Joining in. Wonderful reviews. Thanks for posting Yak and Yeti, we are going to try this place on our next Dec trip.

Wednesday 23rd September
Lunch at an old favourite again Backlot Express the place got busy about 15 minutes after we got there great portion sizes and a decent choice too. Niel got a bacon double burger no cheess and fries and a soda Yvonne had a hot dog nice and meaty all beef with a firm texture ( not at all mushy like UK hot dogs ) and fries and a soda Ethan had a kids chicken nuggets meal and a soda but with fries and two cookies because they were all out of grapes which was another side but he hates carrots the cookies are usually the kids dessert anyway so one is currently sat in the room fridge for a later snack.
Dinner at Sci-Fi was disappointing to be honest, we were seated quickly after check-in but it was so dark in there:rolleyes1 the camera would have been a waste there it doesn't like really dark conditions... the CMs were okay but the food choices have changed since we were last there and they didn't offer anything else as it was about an hour before park closing we think they just wanted to get rid of everyone. The entree was again the shared choice of italian chicken sandwich with brushettaand served with fries but it was so darned dark you couldn't even see it.. the whole thing was swimming in vinegar which had to be poured off:eek: the chicken was chewy too the bu was okay.. and for dessert Niel had a hot fudge sundae and Yvonne had the caramel cheesecake. Niel said the sundae was a typical sundae it was okay but nothing special Yvonne enjoyed the cheescake it came with lots of caramel popcorn and M&Ms and caramel drizzled over the whole dish. Ethan had a kids hot dog and fries and apple juice and a fruit salad and a small bowl of ice cream. Altogether not impressed with there this trip either I guess lunch is the better option to go for if you like what's on the menus.

Tonight we are all off to YSH for dinner so we'll be back later to give you the scoop on the food ...

Thursday 24th September
After a mad dash to the resort after a long awful trip on the bus (tell you more another time) we made it to YSH just about on time for check-in. We were seated in about 15 minutes which was nice our greeter showed us to a great table at a window overlooking the pool which gave great views of the whole of the area. Our server Samir came over and introduced himself and gave us our run through on what was good and took our order, Niel and Yvonne both ordered the filet mingon medium well and mashed potatoes and greens with a side of mushroom caps in carbernet sauce he asked if it would be okay for the chef to cut them in half and cook each piece equally and we said yes, Ethan had the kids steak cooked the same as ours with fries. Samir was a lovely guy and very professional too. We loved the decor of the place and did some people watching for a while as we waited he popped by and congratulated us on our anniversary and apologised for the wait we said it was fine we like to people watch and we didn't mind waiting for the chef to cook our steaks the way we wanted them. This is how they came out...Ethan's is behind the mushrooms:thumbsup2

P1000550.jpg

The food was outstanding there was a salad before the steak but the people were too hungry to leave it long enough for a photo;) The adults also had a beer each Niel had a Samuel Adam's Boston Lager and Yvonne had an Ocktoberfest both delicious they tell me. Then after a little while Samir was back to clear the table and ask them for their dessert orders and then brought out this little plate of gems... chocloate squares of ganash with salt on top and fruity squares possibly peach or passionfruit hadr to tell but very nice;)
P1000551.jpg

and then these a banana stack with caramel and phillo pastry crisps and sliced bananas with bananas napoleon and nice and light but tasty
P1000552.jpg

a creme brulee with fresh fruit perfectly cooked but no burnt crispy caramel and complimented with juicy fruits perfect.Ethan had this butfound it impossible to paint on to but good to eat and he's a picky eater;)
P1000553.jpg

All in all a fantastic meal and great service even if it did cost 2TS credits each it was definitely worth it and we are so glad we got to experience such good food and have a stress free dining environment.

Friday 25th September.
Today they took went to Chef Mickey's for breakfast and I've got to say the place looked like it had just evolved from something older but still in keeping with the hotel. Anyway the check-in queue seemd huge until they found out some "guests" were trying to jump the queue and some were trying to just walk up and get a table sorry dudes and dudettes if you didn't make a reservation months ago you we not going to get in. My family arrived half an hour before their time slot to make sure they had time to get checked in okay and had the chance to have a photo taken since the last time they were there it was different they tell me.
Anyway on to the food everything was hot and fresh and properly cooked before being put out for the guests to eat. There was fresh orange juice smooth and not strong tasting and coffee that tasted unusual or maybe they just were not using Nescafe;) The boy had get this three courses of breakfast who knew he could eat that much...fruit loops with gummy bears Mickey waffles with bacon and sausage and maple syrup and them brownie and rice crispy treat WOW!! He must have hollow legs or something my that boy can eat when he wants to:rotfl::rotfl:
Niel and Yvonne took it in turns to go and get things lots of lovely delicious fruit, buttermilk pancakes light and fluffy mmm..scrambeld eggs bacon sausages Yvonne also tried the corned beef hash topped with corn bread:thumbsup2 there were lots of croissants and bagels and cheeses and jams/jellies and salmon or ham to add to them as well as lovely fresh doughnuts and bananas oranges and breakfast pizza (4 cheeses and egg filling) omlettes made to order all the usual stuff but better organised. Yvonne kept a banana back for later in the afternoon. A great way to fill up and a good choice of items too so no complaints from the family they were full and contented.

Later in the day they took me to The Plaza OMG that place was nice very art deco style and our waitress Lisa was great. Ethan asked for the grilled chicken and fries and a soda and for dessert milk and cookies. Niel asked for a soda and a turkey sandwich with fries (which he liked but he was still tasting smoky flavour afterwards)it was a good size portion followed by a banana split,
P1000598.jpg
P1000600.jpg

Yvonne asked for the Chicken and Strawberry Salad with a lovely white wine vingarette it was huge and very filling
P1000599.jpg

followed by a banana split too. Ethan's cookies and milk looked like the small ones from the Main St ice cream shop next door he loved them and did the only thing you should do with them dipped them in his milk yummy:cloud9:

Saturday 26th September.

Lunch was a late meal today but they took me to Liberty Inn for a quick bite to eat Ethan had the chicken nuggets kids meal another standard meal but the adults both had a BBQ pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw with a soda very good and lots of meat in the buns Yvonne added more mayonnaise to her coleslaw. Niel tried the rocky road brownie mousse it had lots of marshmallows in but only one small piece of brownie at the bottom the rest was chocolate mousse light and topped with chocolate curls not too heavy on the chocolate taste. Yvonne got the rice crispy treat yup Mickey shaped and the ears were dipped in dark chocolate it could have been better but it was okay.. she likes hers with more syrup and marshmallows in them:goodvibes

For dinner we had reservations at Garden Grill a family favourite. Many people were expecting it to be open for lunch boy were they in for a surprise they haven't done lunch for a while now and theystill wanted to get walk up slots for dinner OMG if they hadn't booked them months ago they stood no chance what with it being the EF&WF weekend. My family checked in 15 minutes early again and got seated on time and their waitress Natalia was quick to bring the drinks and we waited while the food was prepared another salad came out with bread buns and maple butter to add. Then came the platter..
P1000611.jpg

It was smashed potatoes in red skins and flank steak with peppercorn butter sauce (nice and tender and full of flavour), roasted turkey (cooked perfectly not dry)and corn bread stuffing and cranberry relish and citrus crumb crusted mahi-mahi on a bed of lemon slices with peas and green beans::yes:::tongue:They asked for more steak and turkey there was plenty of potatoes and stuffing and Natalia was happy to bring them more of anything they wanted. Then came the dessert
P1000613.jpg

It was a blueberry buckle whick was a new one to try ::yes::It was packed with blueberries and it had a huge dollop of heavy cream on the top pure decadence but soooo good and enough to feed a family of four with ease.

Learn and plan wisely folks it pays to do all your planning including for your meals get those ADRs made;) don't leave it to chance especailly if you are going to WDW on or near a busy period, honestly it's been as manic here today as the 4th July and all because of the EF&WF.

Tomorrow's our last full day here and we have a breakfast planned at O'hana with my pals Lilo and Stitch so I'm not sure if we'll get the chance to post but we'll try. None of us can believe how quickly the days have flown over but all of them have been full of fun. Any questions just feel free to ask and we'll try to get back to you ASAP:thumbsup2

Great reviews! That blueberry buckle looked tasty!
I had no room for dessert at all at The Plaza. Next time for me it is Ice Cream only! :) Thanks for the great pics! :thumbsup2

Garden Grill looks fab really fancy trying there on our 2010 trip!

Sunday 27th September
This morning we decided to make the most of our lovely breakfast at O'hana, for those of you who have never been for breakfast we highly recommend it we enjoyed it so much more than the dinner here two years ago we gave this one our top score 5/5 it was well organised we were quickly seated our server Paul was a gem very helpful but not at all pushy:lovestruc the food was amazing the breads were delicious and sweet but not too much you could taste the pineapple and it was lovely. The fruit platter was nice and fresh and crisp full of flavours which was good. The breakfast skillet was very hot straight from the cook to our table and TBH it was very tasty too the eggs were light and the bacon crispy (we've got to have it crispy) and the sausage was great too although the second batch seemed to have more spices. The biscuits were lovely and fresh slightly crumbly and with a hint of salt a bit like an English savoury scone but delicious and the Mickey waffles were fantastic with a slight buttery taste which was awesome with the hot maple syrup. The juice was heavenly and the coffee was a little unusual but not at all unpleasant we both drank at least 4 or 5 glasses of the juice and we had at least two cups of the coffee. This set us up for the whole morning nicely.

The characters were walking about frequently in fact Pluto sat down for a coffee at the table next to us while it was quiet and took the weight off his feet for a few minutes.
