My mother was recently diagnosed with rheumatoid arthirits and we have a trip planned for June 21. I think there is little probability that her RA will be under control by that time. From other posts, it appears that her best option may be an ECV. I have two concerns -- (1) how easy is it to transport ECVs on the monorail and Disney buses? and (2) can the ECV be pushed if she doesn't want to ride in it all of the time? Thanks for your help.

No problem with an ECV on the monorail or buses.
No it cannot be pushed. It is an electric scooter. Someone will need to ride it.

The only problem with the monorail is sometimes you have to back up to get off. Depending on your ability this could possibly be a problem, although usually very minor. It really just takes some learning.

On the ECVs there are usually one or two switches which will release the automaitc braking system and the drive, allowing the ECV to go into "freewheel" mode. Normally this is only used when the person with the key is not around and it is necessary for a CM to relocate the ECV. Sometimes I will use freewheel for maneuvering in my room, especially in a tight space or to turn the ECV around. Since the ECV weights about 100 or so pounds, normally it should just be parked when not in use.

Something I want to add as a RA sufferer is make sure your mom stays very well hydrated while at WDW. Many of the meds we take cause dehydration.

Also make sure she has a good sun block, lots of sun sensitivity because of the meds.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I think we are better off renting a wheel chair for the week, as mom is apprehensive about the ECV.
