As per my Disney Dining Plan, I ate at five counter service restaurants. The first, on March 26, was the Yorkshire County Fish Shop in the United Kingdom of the World Showcase and the last, on March 31, was the Tangierine Café in Morocco also in the World Showcase. Since I don’t have photos from these two, I will discuss them at the end of this review.

After touring the Disney Studios in the morning of March 28, I headed for the ABC Commissary where I had planned on eating. I chose the ABC Cheeseburger with fries and a bowl of fresh fruit with a bottle of water. It was wonderful. The restaurant was nearly empty and I was able to rest there while I caught up on my notes. I give this CS establishment four stars and I wouldn’t hesitate to eat there again. I plan on doing so on my next visit to the Studios.

The next day, March 29, I was at the Animal Kingdom. As usual, I immediately headed for the Tree of Life upon being admitted to park. Then, after getting my fill of Discovery Island and Africa, I felt the call of hunger. I found the Tusker Restaurant and entered. It was quite crowded. I ordered the half of a rotisserie chicken with garlic mashed potatoes and string beans. For my dessert, I purchased a carrot cake and some bottled water to wash it down. This meal was almost as good as a meal found in some table service establishments in WDW. I rate the meal and the Tusker Restaurant five stars. It was a wonderful experience.

On my last full day at WDW, March 30, I spent it at the Magic Kingdom. When I got tired of touring I made my way to Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café in Tomorrowland. I ordered the Meteor Meal, a bacon double cheeseburger and fries. For dessert, I had the triple chocolate cake and, to drink, I chose the iced cappuccino. Cosmic Ray’s is well-known for it’s toppings bar and I chose my share of them including plenty of onions. The burger was a li-i-ittle messy but very delicious. The futuristic atmosphere of Cosmic Ray’s is unusual with three separate areas each serving a different type of food. I enjoyed it immensely and I give it a rating of four and a half stars (just a shade below Tusker House.)

I give a negative review of the Yorkshire County Fish Shop which probably is unfair due to several factors. I had been up since 3:00 AM and after I purchased my fish and chips with a packet of shortbread cookies and a drink, I carried them and my cane to the tables and found that they were all occupied. I then carefully descended the stairs to sit on a bench looking out on the lake. While doing so, I spilled most of my drink and thus was not in the best frame of mind. Thus, I give the Fish Shop one star but, again, consider the context.

I like to spend my final day, March 31, at EPCOT and riding around Future World and World Showcase. In World Showcase I visited some of the pavilions that I had not been to before. I decided to have my lunch at the Tangierine Café in Morocco. This would take care of my last counter service credit. I ordered the Shawarma Platter with chicken and hummus, tabbouleh, couscous and Moroccan bread. I also purchased an order of baklava for dessert and a bottle of water. My lunch was not bad, not great, mind you, but not bad. I give the Tangierine Café a rating of three stars.

To sum up, if any visitor to WDW decide to forego ADRs and just get their meals at counter service restaurants, they probably would still have a great dining experience. Alas, the Disney Dining Plan, however, requires an equal number of table service and counter service restaurants.popcorn::

Enjoyed your reviews...thanks :thumbsup2
Those green beans from Tusker House look yummy!

Thanks for the reviews and photos! I also think the chicken dish from TH looks yummy!

Thanks for taking the time to post your reviews:) I agree 100% with you on Tusker House. I think it's one of the better values in all of WDW. TS quality food for a CS price:thumbsup2

thanks for the reviews and pictures

both tusker house and cosmic rays have really good food for counter serve - the chicken, mashed and green beans look SO good! - and we've never had a bad meal at cosmic rays - the toppings bar really adds to it

:goodvibes

GREAT reviews! Thanks for the pictures, as well! :) :) :)

Thanks for the counter service reviews, you don't see them much.

I have to vouch for the green beans! They are the BEST! Me, DH and Dsis were fighting over them the other weekend. ME and Dsis shared a meal, it was plenty of food, but we needed more green beans and DH was being greedy with them! I wonder if you can get a side of green beans? :cutie:

Thanks for the reviews and pictures. It is good to see some counter service reviews.

I always eat at Tusker House when we go to AK. The chicken is delic. If you decide to eat there, while you are standing in line to give your order, look up. The decorations are terrific. Also after you eat, walk outside to the back of the restaurant and look around. As you crossed into Africa (if coming from the entrance of the park) you had crossed a bridge. In the back of Tusker House you can see some things down below and there is also a cannon in the back.

Thanks for the reviews and pictures!

We always enjoy Cosmic Ray's, but it's been awhile since we've been to Tusker House. We may have to stop there for lunch in August.

Thanks for the reviews and the pictures of the food you ate. My family and I enjoy Cosmic Rays and the ABC Commissary. In fact when we go to the ABC Commissary I also order the ABC Cheeseburger with fries, however I don't get the fresh fruit and I always order a Coke.

However the one place we hated was the Tusker House. I ordered the Turkey Wrap with the corn chowder soup and got a side order of fries, however the wrap was disgusting and the worst thing I have ever ate while in WDW. I was so hungry after eating it I went to Pizzafari and got myself a Cheese Pizza. So because of that horrible meal I will never eat at the Tusker House again.

Thank you for the compliment. Were you on the DDP? If so, you are entitled to a dessert; ergo, the fresh fruit.

I'm sorry that you had a bad experience at Tusker's. I hope you try it again sometime in the future and order the half chicken. I don't think you will be disappointed. (Ohmygosh, I beginning to sound like a sales man for them.:dance3:)

No my family and I were not on the DDP.

As for the Tusker House I don't think I would want to go back there again and risk having another bad meal. Besides I also remember service for ordering the food and for it to be mad took forever.

Great reviews; great pictures. Very helpful. I'd been thinking about lunching at TH and now I definitely will. I have one concern though. I had planned on having lunch (CS) around 11:30 and then dinner and then dinner (TS) around 5:00. This was timed to beat the crowds. However, those CS meals look pretty hearty, especially with desert. Will I be hungry for dinner?

Thanks for the reviews! Since my ADRs are all set up, reading CS reviews is now my hobby

I have a question about the Tusker House carrot cake: Does it have nuts? I love carrot cake but am allergic to nuts.

Thanks :)
