hello
just returned from our wonderful AKL vacation- 1/8-1/14
here are my thoughts on these restaurants:
Chef Mickeys- (Dinner)(approx $24.00 per adult, $10.00 per child) i felt that the selection was very slim- roast beef, mashed potatoes (excellent) chicken (was spicy) mac & cheese, chicken fingers, little hot dogs (DS3 loved) even the clam chowder was spicy? cold shrimp- the food was just okay- nothing great! BUT the character interaction was fantastic!- mickey, minnie, donald, chip & dale and goofy at the door- characters came to the table about 3 times!! got lots of fantastic pics and the dance with the napkins was a blast- they had fun deserts where the kids could put all kinds of candy on their ice cream and also a station to make cupcakes- i felt the cupcake station was rather unsanitory as the kids would dunk their cupcakes in the frosting with their hands then dunk in the sprinkles- in between kids were licking their fingers then re-dunking (gross- lol) 5 for food quality and 10++ for character interaction
Crystal Palace- (Lunch) ( $66.00 for 3 adults and 1 child)the food was good- lunch meat to make sandwiches and P&J- of course mac & cheese and chicken fingers- the parmessan potatoes were yummy, chicken and roast beef very tender, shrimp caserole and veg lasagana-our waiter was very attentive and quick! little chocalate truffles and pecan pie for desert, characters were, eyore, pooh, piglet and my fav, tigger- good intereaction although kinda rushed- 7.5 for food quality and 7 for character interaction
Boma- ($109.00 for 3 adults & 1 child, includes alcohol drink)well what can i say- our server was the best!! the food was spicy- but sooo delicious- they also had regular american food that wasn't spicy (which my DH, DS & DD stuck too) i am willing to try anything once- the flagg steak was in a curry sauce and oh so tender, roast beef excellent, i loved the african stew with greens, veggies and chicken, they had a curry seafood dish with mussels and shrimp- spicy but good- lots of vegetarian dishes- the cauliflower in a light cheese sauce was wonderful- the chefs were standing around to answer any questions and took time to explain to you how the dishes were created-as soon as a tray became empty they ran over to fill back up- zebra domes were very rich (mouth watering just thinking about them) i ate till they rolled me out (lol)
9.5 for food quality (DH thought there should be more american food) but what does he know!!! (smile)
Mara- they had a lot of choices here and i used my connection vouchers- Fish & chips $10.00- kind of soggy- cheese burger $6.00- lots of meat-fried shrimp $10.00 very good,
quarter chicken $9.00 served with couscous- husband couldn't figure out what the couscous was but i have had before and really enjoyed- deserts were pecan pie, german chocolate cake and the best strawberry cheese cake- we were able to choose any drink- (sports drinks, chocolate milk, juices, pop)you place your order then pay and a server brings food to your table- nothing fancy- basically a cafeteria setting- 7 for food quality
Rain Forest Cafe- we used our connections lunch vouchers for this (2 vouchers) we ate here twice- the first time we had carrib chicken (6 pieces) and some type of taco (6 pieces) for appetizers-entree-rack of ribs(big portion) good- crab stuffed lobster- the stuffing was excellent but the lobster was very dry and tasteless- volcano for desert (the volcano counts as two deserts- the second visit we had buffalo chicken wings (hot) and crap dip for appetizers-14 oz steak & russet mashed potatoes and seafood liguane- seafood portion big- not very tasty- volcano for desert again- the first visit we were only allowed pop or juice for our drink but were also allowed to get a hot drink (cappicinno sp) the second time we were allowed to have smoothies (delicious) but no hot drink - food was just okay, ambience with the jungle and electronic animals was excellent- food quality- 7- ambiance- 8.5- both times waitress was excellent and brought out extra plates to split our meals
beaches & cream- used 2 connection vouchers- we had a double cheese burger and steak sub- the cheese burger was big and we split this but the sub was small and i wished i had used 3 vouchers instead of 2- food was excellent and the waitress brought out extra plates and cups- we were also able to get milkshakes as our drink- and of course we had the kitchen sink- we no where finished this- it was HUGE & delicious! Bill came to $58.00 - used 2 $11.00 vouchers!!
food quality 8.5
A thought on connection vouchers- it is great to have these meals pre-paid but i think i will give some thought to these next time- we also used these at the ABC commissary and electric umbrella-they are a great value if you plan on getting desert and drinks - most of the time we wasted our desert and i already had drinks in my back pack- i would have saved more if i did as i normally did when dining and just stuck to the entree
