Review/Report of ABD Costa Rica June 19, 2024 trip

Thanks for doing this great report! It provided lots of details, and did help me to decide that this one would not be for me. I appreciate knowing that, as every destination is not for everyone.

I totally agree with this! I love that a good Trip Report can serve both purposes. To convince you to take a trip, maybe one you hadn't considered before, or to confirm that a trip just isn't for you. This one does not sound like a trip I'd enjoy, and most people are surprised that I feel the same way about the South Africa ABD.

Great summary. My family did this trip in April 2023 and it was exactly as you described it then including Chapo Guapo. We had Bryan (local guide) and Alyssa (2nd time she was our guide in our 3 ABDs that we had done). Agree with all of the advice there. We ended up buying the coffee and chocolate at the airport as Britt offered a deal and shipped it home within 7-10 days. At El Mangroove our group rented all of the available poolside cabanas which was a great deal. Also for the individual dinners we ended up bringing tables together and a lot of the adults ended up sitting together.

For those who also did the Costa Rica trip, I'm still curious if visibility was good during your snorkeling excursion? I don't know if it was murky for us just because of the time of year or conditions, or if it is like that year round.

We did this trip in Aug 2017. The waters were clear, but you still had to be in certain areas to see many fish. Fortunately, our group was the only one in the area, so we didn't have to deal with other boats or jet skis. This was our first AbD, and the price was a big reason why we chose it. We absolutely LOVED it! Our trip still included Tortuguero National Park, and I'm so disappointed that they have removed it from the itinerary. Watching sea turtles lay eggs on the beach was one of our favorite parts of the trip
