on 5/3, I got to do the sunset/Wanyama safari. Yes, non-concierge guests can take it, but we pay $50 more. We met at Jiko's and immediately were given bottled water for our trip. There were 11 of us (we were told that the limit was 15) and we boarded a truck for our tour-

One of the best parts was in the first safari, how curious the giraffes were-

We also saw the baby zebra-

and I got to check out the DVC construction progress-

We spent about 20-30 minutes on each savannah, and on the way back, we stopped and had a snack (Grrr-I accidently deleted that photo). Then we had dinner in Jiko's. We were seated at a large table in the main part of the resturant, and were served several appetizers, 3 main courses, and 3 desserts, all family style. Also, there was a separate wine offering for each course. Dinner took longer than the safari-about 1.25 hours for the safari, but then over 2 hours for dessert. One couple at our table had paid for a babysitter while they did the safari, I can imagine their total bill! Although I loved it, I'm not anxious to repeat it-but it was truly a "once-in-a-lifetime" experience.

We loved the Waynama safari in March, and while the giraffes were close enough to touch, they didn't seek us out like that! COOL!

I loved the shot of the Kidani lobby construction too! That part had not yet been started in March. It makes it look MUCH more real now!

Just out of curiousity how much was it? Also anyone know how much the sunrise safari is?

The sunset safari would have been $160 for concierge guests, and a whopping $210 for us value studio people. I THINK the sunrise safari is about 1/2 the price for concierge guests only. Is that right?

The prices are all PER person.

Sunset Safari is $160/person if concierge, $210/person if not concierge & there's room for you.

Sunrise Safar is $55/person - concierge only. I believe kids on sunrise are approximately half price. Not sure about sunset - for that price, and considering the nice dinner at Jiko I would hope kids wouldn't be allowed. I'd hate to spend $320 for the 2 of us and have a kid ruin the experience.

Simba's Mom - was the wine extra?

No, the wine was included in the price. What bothered me (only a little) was that I'm a non-drinker and yet, when I told them, they didn't offer a non-alcoholic drink. I should have taken the wine and offered it to someone else as a second glass! However, later I asked for and received soda.

Nice photos! DH and I did this two weeks ago. We absolutely loved getting up so close to the animals.

I wish they would offer the option of doing just the safari without the dinner for a reduced price because I would love to do this again without having to spend another $320! DH prefers Boma so it would be nice to do just the safari and do our own thing for dinner. We enjoyed the wine they served but the portions were small with no refills.

Kids must be at least 8 years old to take the sunset safari. There's a child price for kids age 8 or 9 and I've posted it before but can't remember what it is right now. The regular price is for age 10 and over.

Thanks for posting your review, Simba's Mom. DH and I will do the safari in July :cool1:
