Last night, I was fortunate to attend the opening night showing of Mary Poppins at the Broward Center here in Ft Lauderdale. I took my mom with me, so that made it even more special.

I had an amazing time. The show was fabulous. I was surprised to see that the theater was not full. I would say maybe 30% of the seats were empty. , but maybe it was because it was a Wednesday night. I usually like to reserve box seats at this theater, which was perfect as no one could block our view.

If you have not yet heard the soundtrack to the show, I highly recommend hearing it. It's quite different from the original movie version. The first time I heard it, I didn't like it too much, but it's grown on me since. This morning, I found myself humming one of the tunes from the show. :rolleyes1

I loved the sets, including the main one, which begins as the exterior of the Banks family home and then opens much as a doll house to reveal the rooms inside. At one point, Bert closes the house and turns the whole thing to reveal the kitchen in the back!

The use of color is also wonderful. It's set in London, so much of the tones are muted, but in two numbers, Jolly Holiday and Supercaligragilisticexpialidocious, there are more vivid colors on stage. Of course, Mary Poppins is usually wearing more colorful clothes than the other characters.

Two of my favorite parts were when Bert walks on the stage walls and ceiling, as well as when Mary Poppins flies into the stage. We were VERY lucky as our box seats were only a few feet away from her flight path.

If Mary Poppins is coming to your town, I highly suggest seeing it.

I know I wasn't supposed to take any photos during the performance, I sneaked one or two in from my iPhone so I could share them with you all. I apologize for the quality.

I hope you enjoyed. See you at the theater!!!

I just saw the show in New York last week. I agree. It is a wonderful show. The sets work a bit differently on Broadway. The sets move up and down...as well as forward and back. Since the Amsterdam Theater is "permanent" location, I guess it is easier to load the sets that way. If anyone has a chance to see it in NY, the theater itself is something to see. If I remember correctly, Disney bought the theater and restored it. It is beautiful!!!

I saw it here in Cleveland and I loved it. I even bought the soundtrack. I love their version of Supercalifragilistic. I highly recommend seeing it if you can.
