Review: 4/19-4/23 Orlando Omni Resort at Championsgate
Price: $89 bid via Priceline (plus Priceline fees and then taxes and resort fee upon arrival). This is considered a resort category through Priceline.
Location: A
We did not visit the theme parks on this trip, so the location was perfect for us. Championsgate is a few exits south on I-4 of WDW. The resort has a large entrance right off of I-4. Prior to arriving at the resort entrance, there is a Publix (grocery store), 7-11, two gas stations, a Chilis, Subway, a liquor store, pizza place, and a few others. Further down 532 is another Publix, a Dunkin Donuts, bank, etc. We found the location great for hopping right on I-4. Also, we always found a close parking spot, but I dont think the hotel was very busy.
Room: B+/A-
We checked in at 11:00 am, and were offered the choice of a second floor room immediately or wait for a higher floor. We chose to wait and were given a room on the 14th floor. We had a fantastic view of the golf course and pool area. The room was clean and very nice. The only downfall for us was that the sink, toilet and shower were all in one enclosed room (I prefer the sink to be separate).
Staff: A-
We did not have many encounters with staff, but the person who checked us in took a cell phone number and offered to call us when the room was ready. The recreation staff by the pool were very nice.
Restaurants: B+
We only ate in the coffee/pastry shop because we were away from the resort at lunch and dinner time. The coffee and pastries were reasonably priced (by Orlando standards) and everything that we had was very good.
Pool/amenities: D
Even though we bid on Priceline, I was hoping for this hotel because of the wonderful pool and lazy river complex. The pool area is very nice, and it was never crowded; however, the pool was freezing cold. Too cold to even dip feet in from the edge. I had planned to spend every morning at the pool, and we ended up trying to find other things to do away from the resort. I complained at check-out when they asked about our stay, and the desk said they were having problems with the heather. There was also a nine hole pitch and putt course beyond the pool area for $15.
Overall impression: B
The cold pool really overtakes my review on this hotel. Its a great location for a non-theme park trip. I was extremely disappointed in the pool situation, and for that reason, Im not sure I would stay there again.
