REVAMP of Whispering Canyon Cafe BEGINS

No yelling, no throwing things and no horse races before 10 AM. That doesn't mean "no antics."

The character meal thing is probably entirely based on whether the character meal at the Boardwalk has drawn more guests there for breakfast.

I can't believe I did it, but I canceled WCC. I was going to hold off a little longer but CM came up for 6:45pm (vs the 8:05 one that was avail) so I bit the bullet. My kids love CM (they are 17, 14 & 12) and really wanted to go there but I just couldn't justify doing both CM and WCC plus 2 T rex ( have a free gift card thru My points) and Via Napoli oh and 50s prime time (no dining plan).

They will be excited. My kids don't want to go unless you can play and get big or little cups to drink, ketchup, etc..... Next thing I need to cancel is 50's prime time as that is still up in the air.

We have always requested to be seated in "the library", it is the back section that is mostly part of the WL lobby, kind of near the pin booth and DVC guide, it is usually much quieter, there is a lot of space between that section and the main part of the restaurant. It is usually a lot nicer for us, they have usually seated us there without a problem at all.
We sat there on our one time eating at WCC and felt kind of like stepchildren seated in the kitchen while the family is seated in the large dining room. Plus you still get all the noise and walk through all the noise going to and from your table.

I prefer the library to sitting in the main dining area. To each their own. I don't like yelling, and it is not nearly as bad as being in the main room.

True, the noise wasn't nearly as bad back there. But we didn't see our server much either.

When I first heard of the news, I was going to be quick to cancel our ADR for late-August (eating before the Halloween party). Now, it seems like things might still be happening in terms of antics, but toned down. For me the deal-breaker is if they get rid of the skillet. If that's gone we have no reason to still visit.

Has anyone dined there this week? I still have only seen 2 first hand accounts both reporting no change to the antics and about 5 1/2 million posts of people reacting negatively to the "news"/"rumour" that the antics have stopped and cancelling ADRs because of it. I'm still sitting here waiting for more reports from people who have eaten there this week.

From what has been said by another poster, it seems as though Thea, the GM, made a unilateral decision to stop the antics. A wave of complaints and cancellations were made and Thea’s superiors must have been made aware. I would not have wanted to be Thea when the you know what came down. Now they have reinstated the antics and are trying to spin it as though they meant to just lower the volume. They have made this mistake before. You think they would have learned by now.

Some of our group dined there on 10 May. On that night, they were told that there could be no antics initiated by the servers. That the kids could do some antics such as taking ketchup to other tables but the servers could not participate or instigate.

I've only read that from one poster. I'm still not buying the whole thing, to be honest, because I've not seen any on site reports to support it, in fact the only reports I have read say the opposite (but that's only a couple of them). I'm pretty sure this is a case of something being blown way out of proportion, but regardless, if the antics are still there (even if gone for a few days), then all is well.

Actually, the poster right before you said that they had been on the 11th and it was true.

I am not sure you are aware, and I don’t mean to single you out, but TheRustyScupper is a CM. They have also been on the boards for a long time. They are not the type to make things up just to get a reaction. I think it is safe to say that this was a case of someone making a change and Disney quickly bactracking.

I know and I'm not trying to question what he may or may not know. My point was really around lack of first hand reports (thank you for pointing out that one I missed!) vs a bazillion and one people flipping out.

None of us here (as far as I know, I don't know TheRustyScupper's level of management or not) are privvy to the decisions of WDW executives/sr mgmt and there may very well be something indicated that a change is needed at WCC and change is inevitable and I like to let things play out a bit before I panic. That being said, if the backlash to a change is significant enough to cause them to back pedal on a decision, then that's going to be a good thing for many people who enjoyed the antics with their meal. I know my son will be happy.

The breakfast skillet at WCC is the best breakfast on property, in our family's opinion. Great bargain, too.

Hope the menu doesn't change much. We enjoy the dinner skillet, as well.

This ^^^. Other than maybe the Wave at CR (never tried it), you won't find an AYCTE breakfast as affordable and good as WCC's Breakfast Skillet near Magic Kingdom.

This is going to come out wrong, but I still think something must have been misunderstood. I just am having a really hard time processing that a waitress (anywhere, not just Disney) would imply a mom and (18 year old) son were sleeping together, sees the husband/son get very upset and still stood by her insinuation that mom and son were sleeping together.

Regardless, you were upset enough that management comped your meal and I understand your decision not to go back.

I've had waiters assume my father was my husband (gross!!!) before. I wonder if that might have been the case - assumed the son was the boyfriend. That said, sex talk is inappopriate/out of line either way.

Since my husband was with us, probably not.

I was also 30 when our son was born, which would have made me 48, when our son was 18.
