Returning the hire car!!!

We are planning to use DTD check in, which I have recieved vouchers for, so that's ok. Just had a thought though, our flight arrives at 15.25 so expecting to collect hire car at around 4.30 ish. Now our return flight departs at 21.10, but my understanding is if I collect the car at 4.30 it has to be returned by that time on the day of departure, I do not want to be arriving at the airport then for a 21.10 flight. Should I contact airline network and ask if I can pay for the extra couple of hours or speak to the Dollar staff on arrival!!!

Virgin used have a deal with Dollar that you had a 2 hour window to return the car. So, if you pick it up at say 4pm, you can return in at 6pm with no extra charge. I dont see this in the latest brochure, but it may be worth calling them to check.

Uh, oh, ignore that! Ive just seen you have your car with Airline Network...well, it maybe they do something similar!!

Hi there,

Hopefully you will sort this out with Airline Network, but I asked them this question via email a few months ago and their reponse was that basically this would mean another full day's hire cost.

To be fair, I was wanting an extra 4 hours (picking up at 4pm, dropping back 3 weeks later at 8pm) so I don't really mind. It was only an extra few pounds and means we get to enjoy a few extra hours at the parks so it's money well spent as far as I'm concerned!

Allie - page 31 of Virgin 2005 premier edition (is there a newer edition?). I assume the insurance covers that extra 2 hours too.

Don't forget that for a 21;00 flight, you will need to check-in 3 hours beforehand; so yopu would be returning the car just before 18:00 at the latest.

If you stretch your pick-up by an hour (hopefully with a snack at the airport rather than waiting for immigration or baggage!) and arrive back at the airport slightly early, you will be able to get the car back before another day of car hire kicks in..

Thanks for your help, I gave Airline network a ring and for no extra charge they will allow me to return the car between 6 and 6.30 so that will help a little, we will get the children something to eat at the airport before we leave.

Surely if Snookhams has used DTD check-in there would be no need to check-in 3 hours before?????
