Returning an electronics product to Target after using the bonus GC?

I bought my daughter the IPod Touch at Target yesterday using the 10% off coupon and received a $25 GC with purchase. I then used the GC on some other items. Today I spoke with my brother who told me 8GB stinks and won't hold the amount of music she'll want. He suggested I buy the IPod Classic which holds up to 40,000 songs.
So if I return the IPod how do I reimburse them for the GC? Will they debit it from my return amount back? Anyone dealt with this issue?

My DD and her friends are 9. Many of her friends got the 8gb touch last year for Christmas, and they haven't run out of room on theirs. DD just got one this week and she loves it so far.

I know 8gb isn't unlimited space, but for a girl her age I think it's plenty. I do know that SHE would not want the ipod classic because she just wouldn't think it was as "cool" as the touch. My DD really doesn't need more than 100 or so songs on hers though. She does like being able to watch youtube videos and play games, so that's mostly what she bought it for, that and facetime.

Those reasons may be totally irrelevant to your situation though. If your DD wants to have a lot of songs on hers, then 8gb really may not be enough.

To answer your question...if you return and item that came with a giftcard, without the giftcard, they will subtract it from your refund. So, you will get back what you paid, minus $25. :goodvibes

ETA: The touch should hold 1,500+ songs, if you're not using it for anything else, and depending on the file size of the songs of course. If your DD needs 40,000 songs on hers, then it definitely won't be big enough. I have less than 1,000 songs on my ipod and consider it almost too many, lol.

That's weird...my reply ended up above your post. :confused3

I would go here:

http://www.apple.com/ipod/compare-ipod-models/

and compare models.... yes the classic holds 40,000+ songs, and some videos

BUT the iPod touch can take pics, play games, has a touch screen instead of a click wheel (which is REALLY annoying sometimes) and is much more than 'just a music player' I have a 32gb iPhone and I have a TON of stuff on it like 4 movies, 2K+ pictures hunderds of videos I've taken and I think eough music to last me a week straight if I played it nonstop..... a 16GB would hold prolly half that....

Plus, it is REALLY easy to take music off of an iPod, and the touch has better battery life than the classic ;)

I would take a look at that link before you think about returning it

With all the extra features available on the 4th generation iPod touch, I wouldn't even look at the classic! Your daughter will want the 4th gen Ipod Touch.

The 8 GB will hold a lot of songs. If she/you plan on putting tv shows and/or movies on it as well - then I would purchase the next one up. (16 or 32? I forget).

My daughter has the 8 GB. Honestly, it's not the songs or the time it takes to put songs/movies/tv shows on - that's a chinch! No big deal to delete the movies and replace them with new ones.

What I can't stand is the amount of time it takes to convert an AVI or MKV file to be accepted by iTunes in order to transfer the movie to the iPod. I'm really going to need to teach DD how to do this so I can stop. BTW, that is not an issue if you are purchasing from the iTunes store. Only if you have existing AVI files you want to put on the iPod.

I don't know how old your DD is, but I think most kids would prefer to have a Touch instead of a Classic.

This weeks deal is a $40 Target GiftCard back on a 32GB Touch ($295). Maybe you could exchange the 8GB for that instead.

You can either return the $25 GiftCard and get a full refund of what you paid (I know, not an option in your case) or they will deduct the $25 from the amount you get back.

So confused! My brother is a musician and music is his life, so 40,000 songs is reasonable to him. Now I texted my sister and her husband who are techno geeks. They're telling me just get a 32GB Touch because the touch feature is better than a classic. My daughter is 20 years old and also loves music. I should just ask my daughter what she'd prefer but that takes all the fun out of Christmas because it's the only gift she's getting.

Since you DD is older I would get a larger touch.

Even if you didnt use the gift card, they will only refund the amount minus the gift card amount.

If you are willing to buy the larger size, then you can either exchange it or give her that one & let her decide. Then just exchange it after Christmas if she feels the larger would be better. DD is 17 and has not had any issues filling up her 8gb.

I took back a touch because I bought another one cheaper on BF and had no issues. Yes, they subtract the value of the gc from the return & I think it even said on my receipt what the return total would be.

I would go to Target.com and print out the coupon for 10% off an iPod (if it is still there) and then return the 8 gb and buy the 32 GB. They will refund the price you paid, minus the $25 gift card (which you already spent on other stuff). You can then buy the 32 GB and get the other deal. She will get 4 times the capacity (for a lot less than 4 times the price) and still get to keep all the feaures of the Touch. The classic does not have a camera, the ability to go on the web, apps, or anything else that is cool. Unless you know she wants just a classic, I would definitely not buy the classic.

The Touch you have is good, but the 32 GB would be better if you can swing the extra cost.

That is not true. If you returned the unused gift card with the item you would get a full refund of the price you paid.

Personally I'd go with the 32 GB Touch. She can always exchange after Christmas if the Classic is more her style.

Op here! Very happy with the deal I just got. Returned the 8GB and got store credit. Then purchased the 32 GB for $295. I used the 10% coupon which brought it to $265. Then they let me use a $15 off $150 and $10 off $100 purchase coupons. This brought it to $240. Then I got the $40 GC! So, $200 in the end. (Used the GC to buy a vacuum I needed). I don't think I could have done better! Now she better like it!

For a 20 yr old, I would probably return it and get the larger size touch.

I would do this as well. My daughter is 11 and has wished she had more than an 8 gb for the last 2 years...she's finally getting one this year - a 32 gb.

You might want to look into the refurbished ones. You could get one for a lot cheaper. It will be the older generation without a camera, but with her being older, she might not care about the camera.

I ordered myself a 64 recently that was refurbished as I have a camera and video camera and had no interest in those features, but wanted to upgrade my 1g gb.

I would for sure go for the touch and not classic though.

A child or teen is not going to like a classic... my hubby has a classic... its basically just for music - my DD has no interest in his at all - but my ipod touch SHE LOVES!!! ITs more then just music... and I would say the 8g is plenty!!! I have a 64g and I am at like 1% of the cap on it... LOL and I have a ton of music and apps on it

I agree with the others, I would return the 8gb and get the 32gb, but I wouldn't get the classic.
