Returned from a fantastic cruise on the Dream

My wife and I have been home for a while, never one to post immediately. We were on the Disney Dream from December 5-9, preceded by three nights at POR. We had a great cruise, love seeing the ship decked out in all the Christmas decorations. This has been our ninth cruise, the second time on the Dream. If there are any questions I can try to answer them. Just nothing on the shows and adult entertainment, we skipped them all and took in some movies we have not seen leading up to the cruise. We did the Remy Brunch, a couple of tastings in the bars, a couple of tours/slide/movie shows on the making of the Dream, and lots of relaxing.

Tell me about the Making of the Dream movie. Where did they show that? What time of day?

The Making of the Dream was in Pub 687 in the early afternoon. It was a combination slide show, short movie clips and talk. The person doing the presentation made some comparisons to the other Disney ships especially to it's sister ship the Fantasy. At the end there was a question and answer period and it lasted about an hour. It was a very interesting presentation. One of the facts I found interesting was that the biggest ship out there I believe it is the Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas, weight in tons: 228 k, built in 2015 at a cost of $1.35 billion vs the Disney Dream, weight in tons:128, built in 2010 at a cost of $900 million (wonder what that works out to in today's $$$$?). So the Dream at nearly half the size of the Harmony, it is nearly the same cost. He is saying that all that extra cost goes into the details both visually and technologically.

During a walking tour we took; the Cast-member said that when he tells people that he works for DCL one of the most frequently asked questions is, why does it cost so much and is it worth it? His answer is, if your only goal for the cruise is to get from point A to point B (Port to Port) Disney may not be for you. If you're not into the big DCL stage shows it may not be for you. But if you make the ship part of your experience than DCL may be for you.

There is a brunch at Remy? forgive me for sounding ignorant. My last cruise was in 2005 and although I am castaway club gold, a lot has changed (I have never been on the new ships obviously). I am a single mom and taking my son on a feb 2018 4 night Dream and we are both over the moon exciting. I am HOPING that my parents will come as well (WDW is too much for them but a cruise would be perfect) and I feel like it is a whole new world. So I have never been to a Remy but am very familiar with Palo, both dinner and brunch. What is Remy brunch like? I need to google it I guess lol. Hoping if my parents go I can have a nice brunch with mom on Nassau day while poppop and kiddo have some guy time at the pool. If they don't come I may fly solo at brunch if I can get up the nerve.

I believe that the Remy Brunch is only served during sea days. We had an 11:30 reservation; got up there way to early, so DW and I had to each order a cocktail in Meridian while we waited to be seated. When your name is called you (there were two other couples; not with us but being seated also) are first lead into a small room where a Maitre'D (I think) and the chef is waiting. The Maitre'D gives you a little background story about Remy and what you are about to experience and the chef will go over the menu and will ask if there are any questions. You are also told of a champagne pairing that is available at an additional charge (surprise) that I believe was $30.00/person. When you are done there is an appetizer and a glass of champagne for each of you that is sitting on a table next to you. And your server Magically appears to seat you. This is not your typical brunch, unless you tell them someone in your party has issues with some types of food; it is a set menu that is delivered to your table one course at a time. Both my wife and I paid for the champagne pairing and we do not regret it. Everything was very good, the service was great, the view perfect; window seating and we both recommend the Remy brunch. I am sure we will do it again on either the Dream or the Fantasy when we are lucky enough to cruise again.

Sounds great. Were there kids in there? I think my 8 year old would enjoy hearing about that stuff.

Sorry, but I don't know if they also do one or both of these talks for families that have children that would be interested learning about the ship/s! Hopefully someone in the know will chime in; and let everyone know if they are also available for families.
Years ago my wife and I took a back-stage tour of the Walt Disney Theater on the Magic. I believe this was back on 2007. We took one of my son's friends along on the cruise; but the tour we took was for adults only and they did not offer it up as a family tour at all during the cruise. My son's friend took part in many school plays and would have loved this tour. I don't think this tour is even available any more. Once upon a time we had a tour of the bridge! Part of the tour was a Q & A period with two or three Cast Members that perform in all those fantastic Disney features.

Sorry for the double post... I'm not very "forum savvy"

Just responding the above. Remy is "adults only" both for dinner and brunch. DW and I just got off a 4 day Dream itinerary and did the Remy Champagne Brunch on the sea day. $60pp with a $30pp upcharge for champagne pairings. We splurged and did the pairings. Excellent. We're not big wine/champagne fans but these selections were worth while. The courses were fabulous. Starting with a vegetable risotto and finishing with chocolate soup for dessert. Yum. The main course was pork loins in a bacon infused sauce. A very nice halibut was also part of the mix. Can't wait to do this again.

I did Remy brunch a few days ago on the Fantasy. Will try dinner there next time, as it wasn't awesome for me- liked Palo better where there is a free-choice buffet & you can choose your entree. At Remy brunch you do have to spend 10-15 minutes standing sipping a drink & nibbling salty meat while being lectured about wine (um, I already knew that real Champagne has to come from its namesake town, & that great wine vintages take a long time to age, and I don't even drink LOL). Then you are seated for a pre-plated, multi-course brunch. I didn't want lobster, so they made a substitution for me. The service was great, the view gorgeous, the atmosphere serene, and the food was fine, but the items weren't ones I would ever have chosen off a menu. I look forward to trying dinner there so I can have two choices, at least.
