Return to the Scene of the Crime: The Lurkyloos’ First Anniversary at WDW! New VIDEO!

Thanks. For the first cake other than just a cake and cover with icing I was pleased it resembled a horse at least.

The icing was very good. I'm a PB freak. I craved it when I was pg with him and of course he could eat a PB sandwich every day of the week.

Sorry to hijack again Carrie....... I love the cake you made for your at home reception. I'm thinking of using your recipe for the next bday cake I need to make.

I dream of DVC ownership and we've paid for it twice over in the yrs we've been taking DS. We stayed in a studio at SSR on a special once and it was ok just hard with 4 in a studio. I really just love the BC like you and would love to try to rent points. May need to get advice on that in the future.

It might take the fun out of the hunt, but you can find the Kermit Vinylmation on ebay. Of course they're more expensive than in the parks, but then again, it's certainly a Kermit!

I'll keep that in mind. I know he likes the hunt, but sometimes I just break down and get things for him on eBay.

Because, silly! California is full of weirdos! It would scare the tourists off the ride if they saw it was about the wackness of California!

Wait...I live in California!...

...I rest my case :sad2:

I'm not touching that one! ;)

So what's this vinylmation stuff? They're cute, but I don't get it.

Ditto. I have never heard of these. Are they a new Disney-thing?

I'm with Beka, I have never heard of (nor do I understand) the vinylmation characters. They remind me of the "cutie" characters with the big heads I've seen lately. Not that I think they are all that cute, but I think that's what they are being called.

Yeah, it's Disney's attempt to be hip and cash in on the growing vinyl toy market spurred by the likes of Kid Robot and Comic-Con.

Here's some info about Vinylmation: http://psc.disney.go.com/eventservices/disneygallery/dlr_vinylmation.html

They started with bigger vinyl figures that retail for, like, $75 a piece. It's Mickey's body repainted in different ways, like with Haunted Mansion wallpaper, or with his colors reversed. Npw they have 3-inch figures for $10 that come in "blind-item" packaging so you don't know what you're gonna get til you've bought and opened it. It's quite a ploy, because then you have to keep buying these mystery boxes til you get them all.

http://www.register123.com/event/profile/web/index.cfm?PKwebID=0x14618765f5

They also have a pin series now featuring the same designs.

When I saw your Spaceship Earth picture, I thought, This trip report is sponsored by Siemens.

:rotfl2: Maybe if I give 'em a plug, they'll give ME the password to their secret lounge.

I had my first solo day in the World at the end of our trip a few weeks ago. I also didn't get a very friendly waitress (at the Plaza in MK) but I had a great time interacting with the cast members. Okay, I admit I'm a character person and I decided that when I was alone it was the best time to stand in line for pictures with :tink: Tinkerbell (after all my DH would think its a total waste of time.) I definitely got some looks in that line waiting by myself for 45 minutes!

That is really cool! I'll bet the characters give you even more face time when they see you're alone. :thumbsup2

I love PB icing too.

Thought I have to throw in a pic of DS's 5th bday cake.......I made it ( I'm not a decorator so excuse the amatuer's 1st attempt)
yummy peanut butter icing

(hope it isn't huge)

I love it - it's so cute! Was the cake chocolate or peanut butter? Either way, you can't go wrong....

Sure - I'd love to share rental tips. And I hope, if you make it, the cake looks better than mine! :cutie:

more! more! more!

Coming!!!!

the grand floridian bakery makes awesome pb mousse..but I will not say anything!! hahaha!!

Pipe down, you! :rotfl:

Hello, Mexi-WHOA!

Less active shot...

We got a classic bit of anniversary pixie dust in Mexico, where the CM at the entrance to the Gran Fiesta Tour took one look at our hats and ushered us straight to the front of the (nonexistent) line to give us our own boat and a Magical Memories (Moments?) certificate!

IMG_0156.jpg

The Gran Fiesta Tour is a thrilling, turbulent adventure through Latin America!

I took this with my iPhone!

When we got off the ride we poked around the marketplace and told each other for the umpteenth time how much we love the atmosphere in Mexico. We also tried again to catch one of the Animalés Fantásticos artists at the early stages of painting a new animal so we could buy before it was done (for a surprise like on our honeymoon). But we must’ve lucked out that time, because every time we’ve been back, they’re almost finished with an animal.

We headed off to Norway to knock out Maelstrom (I want so much to like this ride! The idea of floating through the different Norwegian environments is so appealing to me, but the execution is so slapdash). Along the way we saw this depressing tableau...

So.... I guess they’re never bringing back the Viking ship...

Too bad FastPass doesn’t let you bypass the movie theater at the end altogether!

It was getting close to our noon reservation at Chefs de France, so we hoofed it around the World Showcase. When we got to Germany, we saw poor Snow White standing around with nothing to do, so we graciously offered to take a picture with her.

Unfortunately, she didn’t have an autograph book, so we signed her arm instead

Lunch!
IMG_0178.jpg

IMG_0180.jpg

IMG_0181.jpg

This turned out to be one of the highlights of our day (well, OK, food is the highlight of my EVERY day, but....). I wasn’t convinced Chefs de France was going to be all that great. Having Bistro de Paris upstairs makes Chefs de France seem kinda like the poor relation to me. Also, I thought I wanted to sit in the interior of the restaurant, which seemed to be way more atmospheric than the solarium sides.

IMG_0187.jpg

As it turned out, we got a table right by the window in the, uh, Morocco-side solarium and sat down just as the rain started to fall, and it was lovely! We got to enjoy the downpour from our toasty spot inside while sipping hot soup and marveling at how many people come to Florida without ponchos or umbrellas. (Says the one who didn’t bring anything heavier than a sweatshirt...)

This is called “bread”!

Bisque de Homard - Lobster Bisque
IMG_0188.jpg

This was flavorful, but it only had one tiny piece of lobster.

Half a Croque Monsier et sa salade verte - classic French toasted ham and cheese sandwich with a green salad
IMG_0196.jpg

Kinda burnt at the edges, but tasty. Needs more cheese sauce!

IMG_0197.jpg

Profiteroles au chocolat - Puff choux with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce
IMG_0200.jpg

Deeeeeeeeeee-ricious! I could drink that chocolate sauce by the glass...

DH’s pin collection at that moment
IMG_0198.jpg

While we were eating, we got to see all the waiters assemble to sing Happy Birthday to different people – three times! It happened twice before I realized the restaurant only had male waitstaff – what’s up with that? It also got me thinking about whether these French fellas were the favorites (or the bane!) of the ladies on the College Program. We later saw most of them roaming around Italy in a pack after they got off work. They seemed very interested in the girls working at Tutto Italia.

After lunch we decided to see all of the films in World Showcase, starting with France, mais oui!

We stole this idea from the people in line ahead of us – we can’t be original all the time, you know!
IMG_0201.jpg

Whenever I see Impressions de France, I always think about how the kids in the flower market scene are all grown up by now (we won’t talk about what happened to the grandmas....).

From there, we went splashing off to Canada.

Where should we go? Oh, Canada...

I have no pithy commentary for Canada or its film.

So, in the interest of posting “More! More! More!” as Toni requested, I will post this much now and see if I can get any more written around my real work today!

I am soooooooo glad I have a day in Epcot coming up at the end of our beach trip in May because your pictures are so making me want to go there.:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:
Have you eaten at the Rose & Crown lately? I couldn't get Le Cellier even at 90days so I made my ADR for there.

Love the pic of Patrick with the Gargoyle.:thumbsup2

Melanie's post reminded me of something. Have you ever had dinner at the Rose & Crown dinner, being able to catch Illuminations on the terrace? Has anyone? I'm hoping to accomplish this during my May trip. I have an ADR for 7:50, with Illuminations going off at 9pm. My one son eats incredibly slow... so we won't have to hog the table, as he probably will still be eating around 9. There is just no guarantee that we will get a table on the terrace...

Plus, I've been known to appreciate a Guinness at R&C.....

Just wondering other people's (LurkyLoo's) experiences with this..

Oh good! I was worried that this day was kinda boring to read about. No DISer sightings... no frisky Ankole cattle... no cookie-tossing....

We ate at Rose & Crown for our anniversary! I don't think it's giving away too much from Day 8 to say that the food was just OK. Certainly not as good as Le Cellier, I'm afraid, but the view of IllumiNations is amazing! :thumbsup2

Yes! This is what we did for our anniversary! It's coming up on Day 8. I think the view of IllumiNations is THE best in the World Showcase, so I think you have a good plan! :goodvibes

All of these cake and food pictures are making me hungry!

That lobster bisque looked really good. I guess it would have been better if there had been any lobster in it!

Too bad Dh and I didn't run into you; we were there Jan 20-Feb 1 (except for a few Disney cruise days)!

Pipe down, you! :rotfl:

to quote Bill Cosby "The child wanted chocolate cake for breakfast! How ridiculous! .. and someone in my brain looked under chocolate cake and saw the ingredients: eggs! Eggs are in chocolate cake! And milk! Oh goody! And wheat! That's nutrition! "

:rotfl:

Best Bill Cosby skit EVAH! My dad would try to use that reasoning all the time with my Mom..and us kids? Well we certainly wern't going to say anything to interfere with our elders...:rolleyes1

Sounds like a great day! That ham and Cheese looked tasty besides the burnt edges!

yay! more lurkyloo-ness! I am happy that you got cute pictures in one of my favorite rides (mexico) since it features the love of my life, Donald Duck! :lovestruc

Waaaaay back in '97, before I had gray hair, I spent 10 days in Paris, and ate a ham & cheese sammich every single one of those days (I took German in high school, it was the only think I could recognize on a menu!) and none of them looked as good as the one you had! They were all cold, on a baguette, and had cold butter slathered on them.

And why is it that every time I read an update, I have a compulsion to eat cake?

Yay! More delish foodie photos...we ate at "Chefs" during out jaunt to WDW for a pals wedding ;-)

It was a chilly night so most of us ordered soup. It was so good! I have dreamt of that soup (mine was something with butternut squash). Yummy. That desert looks good enough to lick the plate when finished. Did you? Lick the plate, I mean. I might have, if it had been sitting in front of me.

I miss epcot.

I want to eat at Chefs de France now.
And I will have what you had, that looks so yummy!

We tried Chefs de France last time we were there for Free Dining. I really didn't expect to love it, but that day the food was delicious! The floor and ceiling there are just stunning!
