Restructured Shoulder anyone?

Hello all,

Originally, I was going to WDW in December, but was in an accident and spent my week's vacation in the hospital instead. :sad1:

On June 3rd, in the car accidents I shattered my shoulder. The ortho surgeon was able to wire the humeral bone back together along with several muscle groups and I now have a spiffy new humeral head. After 7 weeks, I still have a lot of pain and swelling and can only move my shoulder in any direction about an inch. My doctor told me it's about as good as it'll get.

I've now figured out how to manage a long weekend in November, taking advantage of the Veterans Day holiday.:woohoo: I just can't go the year without Disney, especially when I had the Christmas trip all planned out.

My question is...Does anyone have any experience with shoulder replacement or reconstruction? Is there anything I'll be able to ride on? (Besides IASW:rotfl: ) and what might I expect in another 3 months. I actually think what the dr said was unacceptable. I'm determined to have my movement back, but it's a very slow process.

Thanks for any replies!

Several years ago I had a kidney removed. My surgeon told me that "for the next six months if I went to a park and a ride had a warning sign aimed at people with bad backs, pregnant, or with heart conditions it also applied to me".

During that period I did have a nine day trip to DLR and the only rider I was able to go on in DCA was Soarin' and not much in DL itself.

I figured one restricted trip was better than breaking the restrictions and having worse health problems.

Thank you Cheshire Figment. I figure it's better to go to WDW and take it very easy than not go to WDW at all. It fun to sit and people watch, too.

Hey, you can always eat and drink! :goodvibes
Shoulders are tricky joints . . . no big ball and socket like hips. DD had a couple of reconstructions - swimming injury exacerbated by Ehlers-Danlos. She got back into pretty good competition shape but it took close to a year. Hopefully you will have a good course of PT to get the muscles back strong and the range of motion improving. In the next 90+ days a lot can change (for the better).
