My son will be almost 7 for our next trip in March '12. He would LOVE space mountain but I worry about whether or not its a safe ride for him. He's little... he's just 44 inches now and only 36lbs. He's incredibly low tone and not very strong... think rag doll or floppy noodle. I worry about his skinny little butt coming out of that T bar restraint...especially since there's no seatbelt or shoulder restraint.

Anyone know if it would be secure enough??

I wouldn't take the chance, he's little and there isn't much holding him in. If you could be next to him, like some of the other rides, maybe....but you would have to sit either in front or back.

I find the restraint a little scary on SM myself! it is difficult to find a secure place to hold on this ride and it does toss you from side to side. I doubt he would actually fall out or they would probly lose a few riders daily. I would worry that he would get really beat up by all the tossing around. I finally let DS(19) ride a few years ago when he got taller, heavier, and was able to lock his legs and hold himself firmly against the seatback.

I would say it would ot be safe.
My DD has pretty good trunk control and I would not consider it for her. There is a lap restraint, not an over the shoulder one that might help keep the trunk in place a little more. And, as already mentioned, the seats are one behind the other, so you can't even support him in any way.
Here is a link to a YouTube video that shows Space Mountain with the lights on.
