Looking for a restaurant that we can end our day at AK before our group splits up (half go back to hotel, half go to DHS for EMH) but I don't want to eat at Tusker House or Y&Y. Are the AKL restaurants within walking distance of AK?

Unfortunately, you can't walk to the AKL from AK. However, there is a Rainforest Café right outside the gates that could be a good option.

Limited availability at Rainforest. I will keep checking back. Heck, today I managed to get that Coral Reef ADR I've been wanting for over a week so I know its possible.

You should try calling the rainforest cafe restaurant directly to make your reservation. They only put some of their available tables into the disney system. I have had no problem booking a reservation with them directly.

I can't find a contact number for Rainforest that's direct....are they listed somewhere on this site? I'd also like to see if I can do the same thing for O'hana on another night.

You cannot call 'Ohana directly to make a reservation. It is a Disney owned restaurant so all reservations have to be made on the Disney Dining reservation website or by calling the Disney dining phone line.

You can call the third party (non-Disney owned) restaurants that are outside the parks to make reservations. If you use google, you'll find their websites.
