im doing the San Francisco to Disney drive with stops along the way. I wd love some dining recommendations for our meals in the different places. We are willing to try all things, just know that our seven year old son will be with us so kid friendly is good. I have a particular fondness for outdoor seating with spectacular views but am up for all! We are going to the following:

San Jose
Santa Cruz
Monterey
Carmel
San Luis Obespsa
Solvang
Santa Monica
Anaheim

My favorite near Monterey is Phil's Fish Market in Moss Landing. Very casual (order from the counter), great food especially the cioppinno, no view though.

San Jose is pretty big, so it depends where you'll be.

In Solvang, go with Danish fare, either the Red Viking or Bit O'Denmark.

In San Luis Obispo look at Palazzo Giuseppe, Splash Cafe and Koberl at Blue.

Santa Monica is just too big to give a rec without more direction, like kind of food, etc.

As to Anaheim, look at the Center Street Promenade & Packing House in Downtown Anaheim. There are numerous restaurants in each area.

It is near Carmel, Peeble Beach Golf Course had a restaurant The Gallery Cafe (outside of the Lodge) that overlooks the tee for the 1st hole.We had breakfast there and they were also open for lunch.
There is also at least 1 restaurant inside the Lodge which overlooks the ocean but it looked formal to us with no kids.
The best places we ate in Monterey were a Pub and Italian restaurant which had a lot of local families on the main street up from the Marriott but there were no views.

I don't know about great views, but certainly there's outside seating at the Firestone Grill in SLO.

Thanks for the recs all-and a view is not a requirement at all-just mentioning something I like if you think of a place.

We eat at a place called Rosines in old monterey downtown. Really good food! And the desserts are killer! Really huge!

We ate there too when we stayed in Monterey. Really enjoyed our 1st dinner we went back and ate there again during our stay.

I love the Hot Tuna Melt and those big cookies! Oh and the peanut butter pie…:goodvibes

Splash Cafe is also near the Pismo Beach pier if you wanted to check out the Pismo area.

For really good Santa Maria style barbecue, Jocko's in Nipomo is excellent. Nipomo is between Pismo and Santa Maria.

We recently had a great breakfast at Blu Jam Cafe in Sherman Oaks - a little north of Santa Monica. Great menu - their Vanilla French Toast is amazing! Although they don't have a kid's menu, entrees are large enough to split with your son.

Carmel , there is the Hogs Breath Inn, it was really good the last time. It is a bit pricey. But I was in heaven with it.

Definitely give Solvang a try! And I second both Red Viking and Bit O' Denmark! YUM!!!

In San Francisco itself, Scoma's is a must-do for us every trip. Exceptional Italian seafood!
