Restaurant for wifes 40th birthday incl. kids

We are going to DLRP for the first time although we have been to Orlando many times. I would like to book a family restaurant for my wifes 40th birthday, our kids are 10 and 4. I dont think we want character dining and I dont think we want anything too formal that the kids will not tolerate. Maybe a lunch buffet would be suitable. Please can I have your recommendations I would like to make my wifes birthday very special.

If you want to stay in the park buffet lunch options are Plazza gardens, Lucky Nugget Saloon and Innventions Restaurant (Disneyland Hotel).

I know it's not a buffet, but the Blue Lagoon is certainly a different place to try - especially if you can get a table by the water. I would just choose the place you think would be nice - it's all very informal at DLP, as at WDW, and the children will be welcomed anywhere.

Hi tifosi, we're going to the Blue Lagoon for my 40th Birthday meal, you can also order a birthday cake there and the CM's will bring it out at the end of your meal - I think they sing Happy Birthday as well. Can you let know how we get on - my boys are 11 and 6 and they can't wait to eat there.

Thank you all for your suggestions and warm welcome. I think Blue Lagoon looks good so does Inventions. Jill, I looked on the birthday list, your 40th is the week before my wifes. If we arrived on a Saturday and had a look around are we likely to get a table for the Sunday night or should I book now.

We loved the Blue Lagoon as well, it is just so different! My younger DDs loved waving to the guests going past on the Pirates of the Caribbean boats!

I haven't made a reservation yet, I was planning on doing it on arrival as we're planning to have that meal on our last day.
I have just posted elsewhere that the Park is apparently almost fully booked in March, so it might be as well to book yours in advance as you want the meal the day after your arrival.

You are not charged for making your reservation so you could always book it now. Then when you get there if somewhere else appeals more you can make another reservation and cancel the firsts.

Might make you feel happier knowing that you have areservation in the bag for such an important occassion

Hi tifosi, ignore my last post - I've just this morning made a reservation for the Blue Lagoon and booked a Birthday Cake.
Actually I made 3 restaurant reservations this morning, and when we got to the Blue Lagoon - the CM said "Good Choice" and when I explained this was for my fortieth, (she asked the name & age for the cake), she said she thought it was the perfect place for me to have my celebration.

Does anyone have the number to ring for ressies as my husband would be so upset if we didn't get Cafe Mickey for his Bday 16 March, usually we are lucky with tables as we are just two but now we are taking his parents we really should book! And as Jillrobinson says the park is fully booked I must do it quickly!
